CAD Software Updates SparePartsPlace Toolkit

WIDNAU, Switzerland, Apr 4, 2018 – with the release of SPP UnityPackage, CAD Software Solutions completes the SparePartsPlace Toolkit. Thus, the sleek and high-performance SPP file format is also open to developers of HoloLens and Windows Mixed Reality (WMR) Apps.

The SparePartsPlace Toolkit for Autodesk Inventor is a tool for simplifying CAD data for use in cloud and mobile applications. The tool offers all the necessary functions to simplify and restructure the geometries of large CAD assemblies with a few mouse clicks. As a result, assemblies that consist of well over 10,000 individual parts can be loaded, rendered and moved in the highest quality and performance in web and mobile applications.

The data generated in this way represent a ready-to-use 3D spare parts catalog, whereby each customer hosts the data generated by the Spare Parts Place Toolkit on his own server and thus holds the sovereignty over his data. For the end customers in the spare parts business, CAD Software Solutions offers access to the catalogs with the SparePartsPlace Viewer (SPPV). SPPV can be integrated into an HTML website, is available as an app and as a desktop EXE.

The package also includes a revised version of Threejs. This allows the SparePartsPlace Toolkit native file format to be integrated directly into HTML Web pages (full-featured native SPP) and displayed on more or less all devices with Web browsers in very high performance and quality. In contrast to OBJ, which is also supported by the SparePartsPlace Toolkit, you can use native SPP to navigate through the assembly hierarchy and access the metadata of Assemblies / Parts. Demo examples of OBJ, SPPV and full-featured native SPP in HTML can be found here: http://www.sparepartsplace.com/demos/

Unity3D, HoloLens and WMR

To round off the possibilities and for the widest possible use, the standard package from SparePartsPlace Toolkit now also includes a UnityPackage for developers. This UnityPackage for the Unity3D development environment enables the creation of scenes for Unity3D, WMR and MS HoloLens applications quickly and easily. It provides all the functionality needed to handle the highly compressed SPP 3D CAD data processed in the Spare Parts Place Toolkit in WMR, MS HoloLens and general Unity3D applications. This toolkit allows any user to design a custom scene within minutes and link the information and functionality provided by SPP UnityPackage with the application-specific GUI elements or gestures of their own application. The developer thus receives everything necessary for handling the CAD data ready for use.

The SPP UnityPackage includes features such as:

  • Access to SPP CAD data (local + cloud)
  • Server credentials
  • SPP CAD data streaming
  • Access to different shaders
  • CAD geometry selection (Selection-Handler)
  • Access to assembly hierarchy
  • Access to metadata (assemblies and parts)
  • Synchronization of geometry and tree selection
  • Iteration through the assembly structure

The user creates a new scene with the desired/required functions in a few moments using drag & drop. A video shows how easy and fast an application is created with SPP 3D CAD data: http://www.sparepartsplace.com/ms_hololens/
