Ecuador’s EPMAPS Selects InfoWorks ICM, WS

Innovyze_LogoBROOMFIELD, CO, Feb 8, 2017 – Innovyze, a leading global innovator of business analytics software and technologies for smart wet infrastructure, announced that the Metropolitan Drinking Water and Sanitation Corporation (EPMAPS) in Quito, Ecuador, has selected InfoWorks WS and InfoWorks ICM to respectively manage its water and wastewater systems.

Quito, the capital of Ecuador, located at an average altitude of 8,400 ft above sea level, is home to approximately 2.4 million people. Its Public Metropolitan Drinking Water and Sanitation Company (Empresa Pública Metropolitana de Agua Potable y Saneamiento or EPMAPS), is responsible for providing drinking water and sanitation services in the City’s metropolitan area. EPMAPS manages 24 drinking water treatment plants, more than 2,400 miles of water mains, and more than 400,000 drinking water connections. Wastewater treatment is currently non-existent in Quito. The City currently discharges approximately 128 mgd of wastewater flow to surrounding rivers, a value expected to grow to 180 mgd by 2045. EPMAPS has embarked on an ambitious program to intercept these discharges before they reach the natural water bodies, treat the wastewater, and generate electricity using the hydraulic energy generated by the raw wastewater interception and treated wastewater discharge systems.

“EPMAPS selected InfoWorks ICM and increased its licensing of InfoWorks WS as part of an ambitious program to bring ´best in class´ water supplies and wastewater collection and treatment to its citizens,” said Julio Martinez, managing director of Hydroscan S.A., Innovyze Channel Partner for Ecuador. “The software will help EPMAPS develop sound and reliable planning, design and management solutions aimed at optimal effectiveness.”

InfoWater WS combines sophisticated network modeling, predictive analytics, systems dynamics, business planning, and optimization functionality, enabling utilities to make informed planning, design and management decisions with confidence. The software comes equipped with everything water utility owner-operators need to best plan, design, operate, secure and sustain their water transmission and distribution systems, giving them an accurate view of their performance from fire flow and dynamic water quality simulations, valve criticality and energy cost analysis to leakage and DMA management.

InfoWorks ICM is a fully dynamic sewer network modeling solution that uses a fast, accurate and unconditionally stable implicit numerical solution scheme that provides a high degree of confidence in simulation results. The software can be used to model any complex sanitary, storm and combined sewer system, offering complete hydrology, hydraulic and water quality simulation along with sophisticated real-time control (RTC) modeling capabilities.

“The Innovyze family of smart network modeling and management solutions continues to be the standard for the world’s largest and most prominent water and wastewater utilities,” said Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D., BCEEM, Hon.D.WRE, Dist.D.NE, Dist.M.ASCE, NAE, president, COO and chief innovation officer of Innovyze. “The selection by EPMAPS further confirms that utilities which invest in Innovyze technology gain a technological advantage that will lead to measurable improvements in productivity, system performance, and customer satisfaction at maximum cost savings. Our superior high-performance software will help EPMAPS engineers create and manage sustainable and resilient wet infrastructure, even under the most challenging conditions.”
