Carlson Releases Precision 3D 2019

MAYSVILLE, KY, Apr 9, 2019 – Just released, Carlson Precision 3D 2019 (P3D 2019) provides land surveyors, engineers, and construction designers the ability to quickly and easily generate quality surfaces with smooth contours from both large and small LiDAR point clouds.

Carlson Precision 3D Topo 2019

Both easy-to-learn and -use, Carlson P3D 2019 imports all common types of clouds and images and is designed to easily work with point counts at least 20 or 30 times larger than other products in the market.

With its Bare Earth filtering ability, Smart Smoothing, and surface manipulation tools, P3D 2019 allows users to quickly eliminate “noise” as it deconstructs then reconstructs the cloud to produce an efficiently usable surface with smooth contour lines for topo deliverables and hydrology studies.

“The surface can then be exported as a Carlson .tin file or the contour lines can be converted to polylines and exported as a LandXML or a DXF file with only a few more clicks,” says Steve Cummings, BIM/parametric design specialist for Carlson Software.

Surfaces created via P3D 2019 can be exported to Trimble .TTN and Topcon .TN3, printed or even exported to a 3D printer as a .stl file with print preview and print support.

P3D’s point cloud editing abilities include removing trees, vegetation, cars, buildings, and more using its various powerful filters. Cropping, merging, and creating new clouds and surfaces with different focuses of interest is easy and efficient.

“P3D now makes it easy to put details onto your surface as well as strip them off,” says Cummings. “You can drag and drop Google images or your own ortho image onto a surface or colorize the point cloud itself with just a click. And,” he adds, “you can add 3D models to your surface, like storm inlets, light poles, even buildings, then animate the scene along polylines for drive-through and fly-over video productions.”

P3D runs as 64 bit and is multi-threaded so performance will increase with core count and RAM.
