Balluff Introduces Ceramic Caps for Sensors

Balluff’s ceramic caps are designed extend sensor life by providing a layer of needed protection to the face of sensors in harsh conditions. The caps, which can be added before or after installation, protect flush mount sensors from high temperatures, weld spatter, abrasives, and impact.

Often made of aluminum and magnesium/aluminum alloys, which decreases weight but also reduces sensing capabilities, sensors are being placed in tight proximity to the parts being monitored — and right in harm’s way. The face of the sensor is the most vulnerable area and when the face gets damaged, the sensor will start to misread or stop working entirely. The addition of a ceramic cap can help prevent this damage and, therefore, extend the life of the sensor.

The ceramic caps provide end protection for flush-mount and cylindrical-style inductive proximity sensors. The caps can simply be threaded in place to protect the most vulnerable area of a cylindrical bodied sensor — where the face meets the barrel. The caps are compatible with any brand of sensor.
