Shapeways Co-Founder Peter Weijmarshausen Resigns as CEO

Will remain on the board, COO Tom Finn appointed as acting CEO

NEW YORK, NY, Aug 15, 2017 – Shapeways has announced the transition of co-founder and CEO Peter Weijmarshausen. Weijmarshausen will step away from his CEO role while remaining on the Shapeways board. COO Tom Finn has been appointed interim CEO while the Shapeways board conducts a search for a permanent replacement.

“I am proud of all we have accomplished during ten years at Shapeways and am excited about everything that I see on the horizon for the company,” said Peter Weijmarshausen. “This is an opportunity for me to step back and reflect on what we have accomplished, while considering my own next chapter. I look forward to Shapeways’ continued evolution and growth.”

Having co-founded Shapeways in 2007 in the Netherlands, Peter Weijmarshausen helmed the successful opening of state-of-the-art 3D printing factories in Europe and the United States, and relocated Shapeways’ headquarters from Eindhoven to New York. He established an active community with hundreds of thousands of members and a marketplace with tens of thousands of shops, giving access to 3D printing technology to millions of people worldwide.

“I want to thank Pete for the decade he has spent building Shapeways. Pete has really pioneered consumer 3D printing and built Shapeways into the leading marketplace. He will continue to guide the future as a director of the company,” said Shapeways director Albert Wenger.

As a leader in the ever-expanding 3D printing industry, Shapeways enters a new phase of development and is eager to identify a CEO with the unique set of skills to continue growing and maintain its competitive edge.
