CAD Exchanger v3.8.1 Released

NIZHNY NOVGOROD, Russia, July  20, 2020 – CAD Exchanger announces the release of CAD Exchanger 3.8.1 — easy-to-use 3D CAD viewer and converter.

CAD Exchanger 3.8.1 features:

  • Enhanced support of Parasolid procedural geometry X3D import
  • New licensing options in CAD Exchanger GUI Direct Unity integration in CAD Exchanger SDK

Enhanced Parasolid procedural geometry and parallel computations determinism

Parasolid geometry is used in multiple formats, including JT, Siemens NX, and SOLIDWORKS. Therefore CAD Exchanger consistently improves its support.

CAD Exchanger is able to retrieve elementary, free-form, and procedural geometrical elements. The latter has no explicit parametric equations that define its shape, which makes it more problematic to import. With the new release 3.8.1, we further enhanced the import of intersection curves, blended edges and bounds.

Parallel computations present a challenge of non-determinism when multiple cores execute multiple threads with shared data and produce different results. CAD Exchanger now ensures determinism when importing shared tolerant edges (without a 3D curve).

X3D import

X3D (Extensible 3D) is an XML-based file format for representing 3D graphics in engineering, scientific, educational, and entertainment web-applications. CAD Exchanger’s new version supports not only export but also the import of X3D. It is now possible to view and explore the files and convert them to VRML, OBJ, STL, and many other formats.

New licensing options in CAD Exchanger GUI

For those who were forced to leave the offices and work from home, CAD Exchanger added a license transfer mechanism that simplifies the transition to home offices.

With the 3.8.1 release, CAD Exchanger also offers new license types: site-wide license – to simultaneously run the software on an unlimited number of computers belonging to the same network domain, and server license – for installation on a corporate server.

CAD Exchanger SDK: Improvements for software developers

Direct Unity integration

Unity is a game engine that powers most of the VR/AR applications. It’s now widely applied in automotive and construction fields that rely on 3D CAD data.

CAD Exchanger has added the CadExUnity module to enable the import of 20+ CAD formats directly into the Unity engine. Unity-based applications built with this module can read 3D CAD in real-time, displaying all the data in 3D or a VR scene. Depending on the file format this includes colors, textures, materials, and other meta-data in formats not supported by Unity itself.

WebToolkit improvements: conversion to .cdxfb

Now users of CAD Exchanger Web Toolkit can perform conversion to web-friendly .cdxfb not only with Command Line Interface (CLI) but also with CAD Exchanger SDK. With SDK API, it is possible to gather or modify the file data.

Programmatic selection

Until now, object selection was available only with mouse-keyboard and touch combinations. With a new feature, you can set various algorithms of nodes and sub-elements selection, e.g., when a user clicks a part in a structure tree, the corresponding geometry in the 3D scene is highlighted.
