MSC Releases Marc 2017 for Nonlinear Modeling

NEWPORT BEACH, CA, July 18, 2017 – MSC Software Corp., a global leader in helping product manufacturers advance their engineering methods by providing simulation software and services, announced the release of Marc 2017. MSC expands Marc’s unique technology incorporating adaptive meshing, material modeling, and contact capabilities to increase user productivity and provide greater accuracy for nonlinear modeling.

Highlights of the release:

  • Enhanced Material Data Fitting
Complex material models such as plastics, rubbers, and composites require accurate experimental testing and material characterization. Marc has been on the forefront of both material modeling and material data fitting. Users can now obtain the material fit based upon the experimental data for carbon-filled rubber, thermoplastics, rolled sheet metals that exhibit complex anisotropic surfaces, as well as other nonlinear materials. The new enhancements allow users to model the physical behavior of advanced materials with greater confidence while saving time and costs.
  • Additional Manufacturing Capabilities
Simulations of thermally driven joining for welding and de-bonding that occurs with composites or other glued structures is now available. With this capability, engineers can account for changes in the contact behavior based upon both position and temperature changes during the engineering process.
  • Increased Productivity and Efficiency
Enhanced parallel processing can significantly reduce run times and improve productivity for nonlinear simulations. The global adaptive meshing capability of Marc is extensively used in rubber, manufacturing, and fracture simulations. It has been enhanced to support higher order tetrahedral elements, which are often required for bending dominated models. Additionally, the procedure has been improved to better represent the current deformed geometry and create higher quality finite element meshes. The element library has been expanded to include new pyramid elements that are designed to create a smooth and conforming mesh transition between different element types. For complex geometries, the newly generated mesh provides increased efficiency by reducing the number of elements in the model. As a multidisciplinary software, Marc 2017 improves the modeling of transducers, control systems, pressure sensors, and motors that utilize piezoelectric materials. Higher order 3-D elements, which better capture the bending behavior, have been added to complement Marc’s element technology for these advanced simulations.
  • Extensibility
Engineers have the ability to easily and securely share material models with the newly added data encryption system in Marc 2017. This provides a more efficient workflow between users at material testing laboratories, OEM’s, and suppliers. It helps to reduce the number of design iterations by ensuring consistent modeling practices between engineers at various organizations, while protecting intellectual property.
  • User Interface Improvements
Mentat continues the evolution of better CAD-CAE integration. The CAD geometry is fully utilized from model generation to results presentation to ensure that there is no loss of information during the design process.”The enhancements that we have made to Marc’s award winning capabilities will provide further ease of use and even more accurate results for our users.” said Dr. Ted Wertheimer, Technical Fellow at MSC Software.Engineers around the world trust the complete and unified framework of Marc to address a vast spectrum of simulations for aerospace, automotive, biomedical, oil and gas, and manufacturing industries.
