Matterport Achieves AWS IoT Competency Partner Status

SUNNYVALE, CA, July 15, 2024 – Matterport, Inc. announced that it has achieved Amazon Web Services (AWS) IoT Competency status. This designation underscores Matterport’s pivotal role and expertise in innovative Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, empowering customers to leverage AWS for IoT and achieve their cloud transformation goals.

Achieving the AWS IoT Competency differentiates Matterport as an AWS Partner Network (APN) member, providing software designed to help enterprises adopt, develop, and deploy complex IoT-enabled digital twin projects on AWS. To receive this designation, APN members must possess deep AWS expertise and deliver solutions seamlessly on the AWS cloud platform that address the four core pillars of successful IoT deployments:

  • Data acquisition: Matterport’s industry-leading technology captures comprehensive spatial data from physical environments using its high-fidelity scanning process.
  • Data management: AWS provides a robust and secure platform for storing and managing the captured spatial data, along with sensor data from connected devices integrated within the digital twin model.
  • Data analysis and visualization: The combined Matterport and AWS IoT TwinMaker integration offers powerful tools for analyzing and visualizing both spatial and sensor data, providing actionable insights into real-world operations and building performance.
  • Device management: This integrated solution offers comprehensive device management capabilities for connected sensors and devices within the digital twin environment. These tools empower users to securely create, manage, extend, and visualize their IoT applications.

“We are proud to achieve AWS IoT Competency status, particularly within the Technology for Platform Providers category,” said Brittany Schramm, sr. director, global alliances & business development at Matterport. “Our deep understanding of spatial data, combined with the unmatched scalability and security of AWS, empowers businesses to unlock the full potential of IoT solutions. By leveraging Matterport digital twins with AWS IoT TwinMaker, companies can gain a holistic view of their operations, optimize performance, and make data-driven decisions for a more intelligent future.”

Matterport’s digital twin platform allows users to create immersive 3D models of physical spaces and connect them with real-time sensor data from IoT devices. Farnell, Würth Elektronik Partner for IoT Connectivity

through RF Excellence

LEEDS, UK, June 14, 2024 – Farnell has announced a collaboration with Würth Elektronik (WE) to highlight the many benefits of high-quality RF components, which play a key role in ensuring reliable wireless connectivity for a huge range of consumer and industrial applications.

Farnell product segment leader for Würth Elektronik, Josh Ahern, said, “This ‘WE connect dots!’ campaign is designed to inspire design engineers to fully appreciate that high quality RF components are ultimately what will enable them to deliver devices that can be counted on to perform at the highest level. It is in their interest to fully explore what WE can contribute to their success.”

The WE product portfolio includes all necessary components for IoT devices such as RF inductors and capacitors; chip and rod antennas; chip filters and baluns; and coaxial connectors and radio modules required for the assembly of any kind of wireless interface.

Chip antennas provide very good performance in a compact design with little design modification. Rod antennas offer performance with value for those who are not as constrained by space limitations. For the very experienced design engineer, PCB antennas are also available for highly miniaturized applications.

Customers can also purchase antenna matching design kit for their antenna selection and matching needs.

As for baluns and filters, WE offers the WE-LPF and WE-BPF multilayer chip low-pass and band-pass filters that feature low insertion loss and high attenuation in the stop-band with guaranteed performance characteristics. The WE-BAL multilayer chip balun is a 2W, low-loss SMT balun with balanced impedance of 50 to 200 Ω, able to operate over a wide temperature range.

Capacitors from the WE range include the low-capacitance, high-tolerance WCAP-CSRF high frequency MLCC; hermetically sealed WE-XTAL crystals (both SMT and THT models); and a wide collection of configurable coax connectors.

RF inductors include compact and small size RF Inductors, WE-MK multilayer ceramic chip inductor and WE-TCI thin film chip inductor, along with the high performance WE-CAIR air core inductor and price-performance balanced WE-KI wire wound ceramic inductor.

Farnell’s Josh added, “The success of IoT is largely down to robust and reliable RF connectivity, and Würth Elektronik has a depth of expertise that we are proud to make available to our customers.”

Qt, Qualcomm Partner for IoT Development

ESPOO, Finland, Apr 15, 2024 – Qt Group, and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. are collaborating to streamline development of advanced graphical user interfaces (GUI) and software quality assurance for industrial IoT devices.

The combined force of Qt’s cross-platform development tools and Qualcomm Technologies’ means IoT manufacturers could significantly accelerate their devices’ time-to-market.

Qualcomm Technologies, one of the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturers, has long provided processors for devices in industries spanning smartphones, automobiles, Extended Reality, and IoT. Porting Qt Group’s platform on Qualcomm Technologies’ software significantly streamlines how software vendors develop and test UI solutions with Qualcomm Technologies’ advanced processors. It also greatly increases the ease and speed with which hardware vendors can, at scale, develop Systems on Modules (SoM) – tiny computer systems with ready-made components that can be used to easily create embedded electronic devices (from robots to security cameras).

In addition to these UI capabilities, OEMs accessing Qualcomm Technologies’ processors that support Qt can also access Qt Group’s intuitive, user-friendly software development and quality assurance tools, drastically lowering production barriers for manufacturers.

“When you tune out the noise surrounding tech innovation today, what is it really at the end of the day that impacts end users the most? It’s the user experience – specifically the user interface,” says Roger Mazzella, senior product manager at Qt Group. “At Qt Group, our team has been proud to collaborate with Qualcomm Technologies in the automotive industry over the years. Now, we get to expand the benefits of all that groundwork to the IoT market, to which Qualcomm Technologies is well suited. Their high-powered processors handle data-heavy communication while providing ultra-fast performance that developers and end users expect.”

“The benefit of Qt’s technologies is that they already have a history of implementation across 70 industries,” says Juhapekka Niemi, senior vice president, product management at Qt Group. “We will give hardware and software vendors for IoT the UI/UX development and QA tools they need right out of the box. Since these vendors don’t have to perform any integrations themselves, the ease of developing GUIs significantly cuts down the time it takes to launch their products.”

By leveraging Qt’s development tools and framework, IoT manufacturers can apply advanced 3D graphics capabilities to their device’s UI, except in a much leaner package. Other frameworks, such as game engines, also cater to high-fidelity graphics, but these normally include features that are not necessary for creating GUIs on IoT devices. Since the Qt framework instead tailors its features to these IoT devices, developers can build and run the UIs on far lower hardware requirements.

“At Qualcomm Technologies, we strongly believe in building an industry ecosystem that allows manufacturers to create excellent hardware and software solutions for vertical markets using our chipsets,” says Manvinder Singh, vice president of strategy and partner solutions development of IoT, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “This collaboration gives developers a ready-made solution to build their creative solutions on top of.”

Qt Group’s tools for designing, developing, and assuring the quality of products aim to promote closer alignment between developers and designers, streamlining workflows by letting them work simultaneously within the same framework. The tools are ideal for cross-platform development, particularly for low-powered and embedded devices.

About Qt Group

Qt Group is a global software company, trusted by industry leaders and over 1.5 million developers worldwide to create applications and smart devices that users love. They help customers to increase productivity through the entire product development lifecycle: from UI design and software development to quality management and deployment. Their customers are in more than 70 different industries in over 180 countries. Qt Group employs some 800 people, and its net sales in 2023 were 180.7 MEUR.
