Mott MacDonald Selects MSC Nastran for Nuclear Project

DTE_logoOXFORD, UK, Dec 8, 2015 – Desktop Engineering (DTE), a leading engineering software solutions provider and accredited business partner of MSC Software, has supplied Mott MacDonald’s Process Power Nuclear (PPN) division with a MSC finite element analysis (FEA) solution, primarily consisting of MSC Nastran and Patran. The solution will be used on a new nuclear project with Mott MacDonald mainly using the linear static and time history analysis capabilities of MSC Nastran.

John Hadfield, principal analyst and structural designer at Mott MacDonald, said: “Due to client requirements and the need to use a well established FEA solution on the project, we took a strategic decision to move away from our existing FEA technology and use MSC Nastran. MSC Nastran provides us with quick analysis and allows text-based input rather than forcing the user to work with a graphical user interface.”

MSC Nastran is the world’s most prevalent FEA solver. It is built on work done by NASA scientists and researchers, and is trusted for the design of mission critical systems. It offers a complete set of linear static and dynamic analysis capabilities along with unparalleled support for super elements enabling users to solve large, complex assemblies more efficiently. Patran is pre/post-processing software for FEA, providing solid modelling, meshing, analysis setup and post-processing for multiple solvers. It provides a rich set of tools that streamline the creation of analysis ready models for linear, nonlinear, explicit dynamics, thermal, and other finite element solutions.

Mott MacDonald provides multidisciplinary capability in nuclear services, such as waste management, nuclear defense and research and development. Its team of specialist structural analysts and engineers use analytical software to meet complex structural technical challenges.
