CD-adapco Releases STAR-CCM+ v9.04 for Simulation

CD-adapco_logoNEW YORK, NY & LONDON, UK, June 26, 2014 – CD-adapco, the largest privately held CFD focused provider of CAE software, announced the release of STAR-CCM+ v9.04, the second release in 2014 of its flagship simulation tool. Customers will see reductions in overall time-to-solution and dramatic gains in productivity using STAR-CCM+ v9.04 workflow improvements, parallel meshing and optimization capabilities. The addition of new physics models allows users to perform increasingly realistic CFD and CAE simulations, that more closely represent the real world conditions under which the product will operate.

062614_CD-adapco“With STAR-CCM+ v9.04 we have continued to add new modeling capabilities, increasing accuracy realism and throughput of their applications results.” said Senior VP of product management, Jean-Claude Ercolanelli. “The development of the STAR-CCM+ v9 releases remains completely focused on simulating large and complex models more easily, faster and in the shortest amount of time.”

Increased Productivity

Concurrent per part meshing allows users to mesh large and complex assemblies by assigning each part to a separate parallel processor. This allows users to leverage as much computing power as they have available to wrap and mesh (or remesh) the geometry.

CAD Robustness

STAR-CCM+ v9.04 and Optimate have the option to perform a CAD robustness study. This study, performed before the full analysis, allows you to quickly check the robustness of your design ensuring that computational time will be spent performing simulations on viable geometry configurations. Not only does it save you time, it also gives you confidence that you will find better designs faster.

Tying Objectives Together

The new expression cost function available for adjoint problems in STAR-CCM+ allows you to mathematically combine cost functions into arbitrary formulas. Both individual and combined sensitivities can then be used to more precisely guide the improvement of your design.

DFBI Contact Model

A New Contact Coupling feature is added to DFBI to model the contact and collision between moving bodies and boundaries. The Contact Coupling model can be used in tandem with any of the other DFBI models, such as the catenary coupling and the linear spring models to take into account additional (non fluid) forces acting on DFBI bodies.

Interface Enhancements

Field Function edition is made easier, syntax highlighting and parenthesis matching will provide you with immediate feedback on whether your expression is constructed correctly. A quick reference to all system functions offers the benefit of not having to search through the documentation to find what you are looking for.

The Filtering feature is now capable of supporting queries and conditional expressions to group entities. You can also use these groups for setting up your physics and analyzing your solution and save a significant amount of time manipulating large and sophisticated models.

Colormaps are fundamental to how we present and communicate our information, and an interactive colormap editor is now available to simplify the task of creating effective visualizations. This feature lets you create, modify, copy/paste and import/export your own colormaps, and is particularly useful when used in combination with volume rendering.
