DENVER, CO, Nov 6, 2017 – The Associated Builders and Contractors, a premier construction association representing the merit shop construction industry, awarded two Adolfson & Peterson Construction (AP) projects at this year’s 2017 regional Excellence in Construction awards ceremony: the Silverthorne Performing Arts Center project and the City of Fort Collins Block 32 Utilities Administration Building project.

The City of Fort Collins Block 32 Utilities Administration Building received the Greener Tomorrow/LEED Platinum Project Award, along with a Merit award. The building is the first in the state of Colorado, the third in the US, and the fourth in the world to be certified as LEED Platinum for new construction under the new USGBC LEED v4 standards. This is the first phase of the City of Fort Collins’ plan to redevelop its municipal services complex and create a more welcoming civic center.
This 3-story, 37,500-sf municipal office building – designed by RNL Design and built by AP – incorporates sustainable features, such as photovoltaic panels, an insulated enclosure and windows, the state’s first perennial outdoor living wall, and rain garden. Despite construction challenges – such as the discovery of a 20,000- gallon fuel tank directly under the building that required resequencing work – AP kept crews on schedule through innovative planning.
The Silverthorne Performing Arts Center also received a Merit award for an institutional building between $5 and $10 million. This new 15,730-sf design-build facility, designed by OZ Architecture, became the beginning of a master plan for the Town of Silverthorne’s cultural identity, using new architectural standards to represent a modernized direction for their community. Untraditional to the AEC industry, the effort was a successful joint-partnership project between a local, non-profit private entity and a municipality. The EIC Merit award was given based on factors such as the project’s perfect safety record and the team’s ability to overcome challenging mountain building conditions.
