ZingBox, VMware Partner for IoT

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, Aug 28, 2017 – ZingBox, a leading internet of things (IoT) security solution provider, today announced it will collaborate with VMware to deliver enhanced security to enterprise Internet of Things (IoT) implementations.

According to Gartner, by 2020, over 25 percent of identified attacks in enterprises will involve IoT. The Mirai attack last year was a wake-up call—it demonstrated the real-world impact of attacks targeting IoT devices. The recent WannaCry ransomware and NotPetya wiperware incidents confirmed that the cybersecurity landscape is changing. Recognizing this key technology trend, ZingBox joins forces with VMware to properly safeguard an IoT environment that requires adding security at every level of the architecture: software, hardware, network and user.

“We are excited to leverage the strong VMware products with our best-in-class IoT security technology,” said Xu Zou, co-founder and CEO of ZingBox. “Our collaboration will enable IT and OT leaders to increase overall vendor/solution credibility, particularly in manufacturing, retail and healthcare.”

“The process of provisioning, managing and securing IoT devices remains a significant challenge for many organizations,” said Mimi Spier, vice president, IoT at VMware. “We are excited to team up with ZingBox to greatly simplify the security and management of IoT infrastructure.”

The two companies will work together to strengthen IoT security by integrating ZingBox’s IoT personality-based approach with VMware Pulse IoT Center, an IoT infrastructure management solution. ZingBox will introduce the element of trust between IoT devices and a vendor-neutral open source SDK by discerning each device’s unique personality and enforcing acceptable behavior based on rules created within VMware Pulse IoT Center.

“ZingBox focuses on IoT security and the need to tighten it at all levels—software, hardware, network and user access,” said May Wang, co-founder and CTO of ZingBox. “Part of our mission is to educate the healthcare industry about the need for IoT operational analytics and its benefits. This partnership focuses on the benefits of our pre-integrated and pre-validated solution and how it reduces time to value for the end customer.”

ZingBox’s patent-pending solution leverages machine learning to discover, assess risk, baseline normal behavior, detect anomalous activities and provide real-time remediation across an organization’s entire IoT footprint. Their technology understands each IoT device’s personality, analyzes communication to and from every device, watches for deviations in behavior and provides alerts for suspicious behavior. ZingBox was named a Cool Vendor in Gartner’s May 2017 IoT Security report.

The VMware Pulse IoT Center will simplify IoT complexity by:

  • Managing all ‘things’ as one
  • Improving the reliability and security of IoT infrastructure through accurate and real-time visibility of IoT device health
  • Accelerating the ROI of IoT use cases by streamlining how IoT projects are deployed and scaled

ZingBox’s promise for an Internet of Trusted Things in conjunction with VMware’s enterprise grade IT solutions will help bring peace of mind to any enterprise embracing IoT including healthcare, manufacturing or retail.
