WiGeP University-Institutes Uses Dassault 3DEXPERIENCE

3DS_dassault_logoVELIZY-VILLACOUBLAY, France, June 17, 2015 – Dassault Systèmes, the 3DEXPERIENCE company, world leader in 3D design software, 3D digital mock up and product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions, today announced that parts of the WiGeP-VIP group, members of WiGeP (Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft für Produktentwicklung) University-Institutes, are now using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform based on v6 architecture to establish new ways of preparing their engineering students for rewarding industry careers.

WiGeP is a group of prestigious universities and institutes in Germany and Austria whose talented engineering students feed many of the countries’ large industrial groups. WiGeP was looking for a comprehensive teaching concept that would provide students with skills to develop more versatile, efficient and environmentally friendly products, skills that are highly sought after by industry in order to better support customers.

“The automotive sector, for example, is the largest industrial sector in Germany and among the top five in Austria, and engineering trends focus on introducing energy efficient improvements and alternative technologies,” said Philippe Forestier, executive vice president, Global Affairs and Communities, Dassault Systèmes. “New technology research and development and qualified workforces are crucial.  By providing students with access to digital solutions to develop these trends, we are able to support thousands of future engineers, local industry and its end-customers as a whole.”

Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform allows educational institutions to implement new ways of academic engineering education to help students master the latest technologies and methods before entering the professional world. This virtual product development learning environment fuses arts, science, business, social, and sustainability concepts into one platform. Comprehensive teaching concepts, easy collaboration and an intuitive user interface let professors and students create products, manage projects and engage in practical training with an interdisciplinary, real-life approach.

“We encourage the concept of comprehensive development in our educational program, in cooperation with industry,” said Dr. Rainer Stark, Professor at the Technische Universitaet of Berlin, and member of WiGeP. “With this new way of thinking, we are prepared to make great progress with the help of Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform.”

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform will initially be deployed at three WiGeP VIP universities: Institut fuer Werkzeugmaschinen und Fabrikbetrieb – Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin), Institut für Informationsmanagement im Ingenieurwesen – Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT Karlsruhe) and Forschungsbereich Maschinenbauinformatik und Virtuelle Produktentwicklung – Technische Universität Wien (TU WIEN).
