Type A Machines Announces ProMatte 3D Printer Filament

3D Printed Part in ProMatte Material by Type A Machines

Based on a unique manufacturing process, ProMatte exhibits a surface finish that minimizes the visual layering appearance inherent to 3D printing. Parts have a production-quality finish, right off the print bed, with no post-processing necessary, a finish previously unattainable with existing filament. In addition, ProMatte parts are approximately one-third lighter than those printed using standard PLA – while maintaining a high strength-to-weight ratio. Prints are more flexible and malleable than PLA, and thus will bend more before breaking. ProMatte can therefore be used in applications where weight savings are a critical design requirement.

Unlike the vast majority of 3D print materials, ProMatte parts are highly workable; they can be sanded to a highly smooth surface, carved, or even tumbled to remove artifacts producing a smooth, soft feeling part.

“With a revolutionary material like ProMatte, we answer the question of how to improve quality in a way no-one else has done before,” said Andrew Rutter, Type A Machines’ founder and CTO. “ProMatte changes the way people think about 3D printing.”

ProMatte is available immediately on the Type A Machines store in Black Matte and Ivory White Matte. It retails for $58USD per spool – 500g/230 meters. As ProMatte is 30% lighter than standard PLA, it is sold by length as well as weight.
