IMSI TurboSite Drone Creates Automatic Aerial Reports

IMSI_logoNOVATO, CA, Mar 26, 2015 – IMSI/Design, a pioneer in mobile solutions for engineering and construction, announced it is creating TurboSite Drone, the first ever automated aerial reporting app for UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles).

TurboSite DroneBased on the award-winning TurboSite, IMSI is creating a reporting app that takes to the air – literally.

Users have the ability to set waypoints in advance of a flight. Doing so autonomously pilots a 3DR-powered vehicle to precise GPS coordinates, allowing users to take photos, videos, dictations, and text notes at that precise spot, as well as assign “punch list” action items for future follow-up. Using a complete complement of markup and measurement tools, photos can be marked up even while the drone is still airborne. A custom PDF or HTML can be automatically generated and distributed to specific people on design team, or to everyone, before the UAV lands.

“There’s up to 2.5 hours of aerial report creation for every 15 minutes of flight time,” stated Royal Farros, CEO of IMSI/Design. “TurboSite Drone will do away with that, making aerial report creation and distribution one-button simple.”

“We created DroneKit to get innovative software companies like IMSI/Design in the air,” said Brandon Basso, VP software engineering for 3D Robotics. “The app work they are doing with our newly released SDK will help expand UAV usage in ground-breaking ways.”

Doug Cochran, CTO of IMSI and a former practicing architect who worked on large projects such as The Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas added: “Drone usage is one of the most exciting innovations to happen to AEC in a long time. The ability to have instant aerial data… and be able to instantly share that aerial data with team members… will change the very foundation of construction management going forward. At its core will be DroneKit from 3D Robotics, making innovations such as TurboSite Drone possible.”

About TurboSite

TurboSite turns mobile devices into a first-of-their-kind field reporting tool, cutting up to 80% of the burden of traditional site inspections and completely automating the field reporting process.

No more lugging plans into a building, your 2D and 3D DWG/PDF/DXF/DWF drawings can be stored both in the cloud and on your iPad or iPhone. Navigation is blazingly fast. GPS or SPS knows where you’re at in your plan with or without connectivity. At any spot create a correctly geolocated GeoMark and, using the built-in camera, take as many photos, videos, dictation, and text notes that you want at that exact spot. Instantly assign punch lists items to your team. Redline a 2D or 3D drawing with powerful markup, dimension, and inquiry tools, including AutoShapes, an easy way to draw accurate geometry with simple gestures. Calibrate 2D PDF’s for area take offs and measurements for easy estimating. You can even have a real-time video conference via FaceTime or Skype from directly in your building plan. Wrap up by punching and sharing your report electronically with your entire design and construction team at the touch of a button… or instantly print a highly-customized PDF report and distribute hardcopy. Either way, creating a field report has never been so easy.

Awarded AIA National Convention’s “Best of Show,” TurboSite is available in a variety of product and payment options suitable to any size organization, from the very largest to single-person shops. Free plug-ins for Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit extend TurboSite documentation into the desktop environment.

About DroneKit

DroneKit provides interfaces for mobile applications to control 3DR-powered vehicles such as planes, copters, multirotors, rovers built using the open-source ArduPilot flight control software. It enables developers to quickly write new applications for vehicles that push the boundaries of autonomous navigation.

3DR Services, the guide to drone apps built with DroneKit, is currently available on the Google Play store. DroneKit is compatible with all ArduCopter and ArduPlane vehicles, which is part of the APM flight controller that powers all 3D Robotics vehicles.
