Trimble Releases MEPdesigner for SketchUp v 2.0

Trimble_logoSUNNYVALE, CA, July 23, 2015 – Trimble announced version 2.0 of Trimble MEPdesigner for SketchUp, a platform extension to SketchUp Pro specifically designed to improve productivity and ease of use in 3D CAD and building information modeling (BIM) for mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contractors and engineers. The new version extends the software’s capabilities with an improved electrical construction materials catalog and expanded component patterns as well as a bendable electrical conduit feature.

The addition includes EMT, IMC, PVC and RMC, which allows contractors and engineers to more accurately model electrical systems for today’s construction projects.

To enhance the design process, Trimble MEPdesigner version 2.0 includes a new bendable conduit feature. This added functionality eliminates the need to use a collection of components to represent a bend in the conduit, saving time and producing a more accurate 3D model and bill of materials (BOM).

The SketchUp platform enables users to take advantage of the 3D Warehouse, with thousands of user generated models. To accompany the release of version2.0, Trimble has published 3D models of electrical components including: panelboards, lighting panels and transformers, available for download and use.

Trimble will be hosting a series of workshops to give electrical contractors introductory hands on experience and training with Trimble MEPdesigner forSketchUp. In addition, contractors are invited to attend the webinar “Getting Started with 3D Modeling” on August 11, 2015.

I started using SketchUp as an architect 10 years ago and it quickly became a core part of my business. I’m glad to see Trimble are taking the software from strength to strength. This new plugin is just the kind of modern, practical tool that is needed in the contracting marketplace.
