SOLIDWORKS Industrial Conceptual is meant for use in industrial design, and meant to compete with the popular MacNeel’s Rhino program.

Subdivision, or SubD, as it is commonly referred, modeling was available to SOLIDWORKS users before with the purchase of Power Surfacing, a 3rd-party add-on by nPower Software.

A subdivision surface, in the field of 3D computer graphics, is a method of representing a smooth surface via the specification of a coarser piece-wise linear polygon mesh. The smooth surface can be calculated from the coarse mesh as the limit of a recursive process of subdividing each polygonal face into smaller faces that better approximate the smooth surface.
