Siemens Introduces Solid Edge ST7

Adds KeyShot rendering, flattened blank capability

siemenslogoPLANO, TX, May 13, 2014 – The latest release of Siemens’ Solid Edge software (Solid Edge ST7) will include new functionality that significantly accelerates the product design process. Enhancements to 3D modeling and image rendering enable certain tasks to be performed up to five times faster than the previous version. Additional productivity and efficiency is achieved through enhancements in design management and the Solid Edge user interface. In conjunction with the release of Solid Edge ST7, Siemens’ product lifecycle management (PLM) business is also expanding its portfolio of in-house and third party apps that further extend Solid Edge beyond its core design capabilities. These apps enhance Solid Edge with integrated solutions for standard parts libraries, simulation, manufacturing and mobile device support.

“At Siemens we develop software for our users,” said Karsten Newbury, senior vice president and general manager, Mainstream Engineering Software, Siemens PLM Software. “Solid Edge ST7 significantly elevates the user experience; its new enhancements help ensure a much faster, easier learning curve for new users and improved efficiency for experienced ones. This makes our exclusive synchronous technology even more accessible to everybody. Coupled with our expanding ecosystem of partner apps we’re empowering our users to re-imagine what’s possible.”

These new capabilities provide significant improvement in overall image quality and speed real time photorealistic rendering of native 3D models by up to five times, based on internal testing.

“The new built-in image rendering capabilities in Solid Edge ST7 will provide a tremendous advantage for our business development,” said Ricardo Espinosa, design engineer, Kimball International. “During meetings with customers, we will be able to respond to requests for customized products by taking their input, easily modifying the model with synchronous technology and generating realistic images for instant review.”

This makes it easier to create and work with complex design projects, complete engineering changes faster and improve overall productivity.

Complementing the enhancements in Solid Edge ST7 is an expanded family of powerful new apps. These new Solid Edge apps provide wider capabilities for design, manufacturing and collaboration that speed the entire product development process. There are now over 500 Solid Edge apps available to help increase customer value.
