Remcom Updates XFdtd Electromagnetics Simulation Suite

Adds PrOGrid Project optimized gridding to suite

Remcom_logoSTATE COLLEGE, PA, Aug 27, 2014 – Remcom announces an update to XFdtd 3D Electromagnetic Simulation Software with PrOGrid Project Optimized Gridding and other productivity enhancements. In addition, the release introduces new capabilities specific to mobile device design and biomedical analysis.082714_Remcom_PoseableHand

Highlights of the release include:

  • PrOGrid Project Optimized Gridding
  • MATLAB Export Functionality
  • Poseable Hands from CADHuman
  • Enhanced Biological Thermal Sensor
  • STL Import
  • Dispersive Material Calculator

A major feature of the release is PrOGrid Project Optimized Gridding, a new capability that simplifies grid creation. Gridding is an integral component of electromagnetic simulation. PrOGrid incorporates best practices in FDTD modeling by considering multiple aspects of a project to optimize the grid for both accuracy and runtime.

Rodney Korte, product manager for XFdtd, said, “The addition of PrOGrid was integral to the expansion of XFdtd’s user-centered design. We have continued to focus our development strategy on usability, incorporating convenience features that streamline common tasks and make working with the tool even more intuitive.”

Another productivity enhancement is MATLAB Export Functionality. All data available through XFdtd’s Results Browser can be exported to MATLAB and CSV formats, expanding engineers’ post-processing options.

Market-specific features include the following:

For Mobile Device Design: Poseable Hands from CADHuman

CADHuman’s left and right hand models can be imported and repositioned to grip mobile devices in realistic ways. Using the phantom material from the CTIA standard, designers can better understand how a device’s performance – including far zone and efficiency – is affected by how it is held.

For Biomedical Temperature Effects: Enhanced Biological Thermal Sensor

Exclusive to the Bio-Pro version of XFdtd, the Biological Thermal Sensor allows metals and other non-biological objects to be included in the temperature rise computations. The new sensor provides crucial data to engineers studying temperature effects of RF exposure. Analyses include therapeutic heating devices; MRI heating in patients, including effects of implants, probes, and electrodes; microwave thermal ablation; and implantable devices.

“The application-specific capabilities reflect our ongoing commitment to two of our core customer markets: mobile devices and biomedical engineering,” Korte said. “We spend a great deal of time examining the challenges and daily work processes of engineers in a wide variety of markets and adding the many features they need. Despite that, we’ve been successful at keeping XFdtd a robust and comprehensive solution while at the same time gaining economies in computation times with each release.”

There are many additional usability enhancements in the release, including geometry picking tools, cropped 3D mesh, frequency resolution in results, and more. Both the Pro and Bio-Pro versions of XFdtd include XStream GPU Acceleration, geometric modeler and postprocessor, shared memory multiprocessor (MPM) capability, XACT Accurate Cell Technology, and a comprehensive variety of 3D CAD and PCB import modules. The Bio-Pro version also includes a bundled collection of important biomedical EM calculation capabilities such as Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) analysis, VariPose Mesh Repositioning, and Hearing Aid Compatibility (HAC).
