Newport News Selects InfoSWMM Product Portfolio

Innovyze_LogoBROOMFIELD, CO, Oct 18, 2016 – Innovyze, a leading global innovator of business analytics software and technologies for smart wet infrastructure, today announced that the City of Newport News, Virginia, has chosen InfoSWMM, InfoSWMM 2D and InfoSWMM Sustain to replace its existing sanitary sewer and stormwater network modeling solutions. The software portfolio equips the City with the most comprehensive ArcGIS-centric (Esri, Redlands, CA) solution for managing and optimizing its sanitary sewer and stormwater systems.

The City of Newport News sits on a prime vantage point where the James River meets Chesapeake Bay. The City runs approximately 23 miles along the James River and the Hampton Roads Harbor and has a population of approximately 185,000. Its sanitary sewer system is comprised of 172 sewer pumping stations, approximately 658 miles of gravity sewer lines, approximately 14,500 manholes, and 40 miles of sewer force mains. The City also owns, operates and maintains a separate municipal storm sewer system.

“Among the many reasons we selected InfoSWMM, InfoSWMM 2D and InfoSWMM Sustain is their demonstrated ability to help us optimize our Storm Water Management Program as well as eliminate the occurrence of Sanitary Sewer Overflows in our sanitary sewer system,” said Everett Skipper, P.E., BCEE, director of engineering for Newport News. “The programs also integrate seamlessly with our standard Esri-based GIS platform, creating a winning combination for us.”

A complete ArcGIS-centric urban drainage modeling solution, the full-featured InfoSWMM analysis and design program delivers the highest rate of return in the industry. All operations of a typical sewer system — from analysis and design to management functions such as water quality assessment, pollution prediction, sediment transport and deposition, urban flooding, real-time control, and record keeping — are addressed in a single, fully integrated geoengineering environment. The program’s powerful hydraulic and water quality computational engine is based on an enhanced version of the latest USEPA SWMM 5, which is certified by FEMA. These features and more deliver an enhanced modeling experience and greater realism of displayed results — advantages that translate to increased productivity, reduced costs, higher accuracy, better efficiency, and improved designs.

InfoSWMM also serves as a robust base platform for advanced two-dimensional surface flood modeling (InfoSWMM 2D) and urban stormwater treatment and analysis (InfoSWMM Sustain) for the optimal selection, placement and sizing of green infrastructure.

“GIS-centric smart network modeling software solutions can transform the business performance of utilities worldwide, helping them proactively operate, manage and sustain their sewer collection systems,” noted Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D., BCEEM, Hon.D.WRE, Dist.D.NE, Dist.M.ASCE, NAE, president, COO and chief innovation officer of Innovyze. “The selection of Innovyze software by the City of Newport News is a massive vote of confidence in the power and flexibility of the software. Our InfoSWMM product portfolio gives users the complete and powerful toolset they need to make fast, reliable planning, design, management and operational decisions while maximizing profitability. The City of Newport News is especially well-equipped to make full use of these advantages, and our company is proud to contribute to its success.”
