MIMO’s Creator Inducted into National Inventors Hall of Fame

Arogyaswami Paulraj, professor emeritus of electrical engineering, was recently inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame (NIHF), a leading nonprofit organization founded in 1973 by the US Patent and Trademark Office and the National Council of Patent Law Associations (now the National Council of Intellectual Property Law Associations), with a mission of promoting inventions and inventors who facilitate human, social and economic progress.

Developed during his time at Stanford, Paulraj’s revolutionary technology, Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MIMO), has become the foundation of all current and future broadband wireless communications. MIMO is now the key to high-speed internet access for billions of people around the world. Paulraj’s academic and career achievements include more than 400 research papers, 79 patents and technical advancements in sonar technology, artificial intelligence and computing.

Paulraj is among eight honorees in the area of wireless technology and joins 14 other inductees this year. He will be formally inducted at the 46th Annual National Inventors Hall of Fame Ceremony on May 3, 2018, at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC.
