Maplesoft Releases Multivariate Calculus Study Guide

Maplesoft_logo2xWATERLOO, Canada, Feb 19, 2016 – Maplesoft announced the release of a Multivariate Calculus Study Guide based on Maple, the mathematical computing software for education and research in mathematics, engineering, and the sciences. This guide takes advantage of Maple’s Clickable Math approach to cover the standard multivariate calculus course, making this often challenging subject more comprehensible to students.

Maplesoft’s new e-book includes more than 600 worked examples solved using interactive and syntax-free technologies.

The guide provides over 600 worked examples taken from more than 50 topics. Almost all the examples are solved using interactive, point-and-click methods, allowing students to focus on the mathematical concepts instead of the mechanical details. Solutions are also provided in purely mathematical form, as well as using Maple commands for those who prefer that approach. Summaries of key concepts are provided for each topic. These summaries make use of Maple’s extensive visualization abilities, including helpful animations that could never be found in a traditional, static study guide or textbook.

The Multivariate Calculus Study Guide is the latest addition to the Clickable Calculus series from Maplesoft, which also includes guides for precalculus and for single variable calculus. For instructors, these guides can act as manuals on how to teach calculus using Clickable Math techniques. With its systematic coverage of topics, instructors can quickly learn how to leverage Maple’s computation and visualization abilities in the classroom to provide students with engaging, enlightening examples of important concepts. Because the examples are done using Clickable Math, neither the instructor nor the student needs to spend time learning syntax or memorizing commands. Instead, they can immediately focus on exploring and understanding the mathematics.

“Maple’s Clickable Math approach, as demonstrated in the Multivariate Calculus Study Guide, illuminates the subject matter and brings the spark that ignites understanding,” says Dr. Robert Lopez, Emeritus Professor of Mathematics, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and Research Fellow at Maplesoft. “Exploring each example from a purely mathematical point of view as well as using computational tools, together with the ease-of-use features in Maple, makes Maple and this Study Guide a highly productive environment for learning multivariate calculus. Students using the guide will deepen their comprehension of this fundamental subject, while instructors will learn how to exploit Maple’s Clickable Math tools fully in teaching multivariate calculus, and apply the same techniques to their other courses.”
