Maplesoft Releases Maple Companion

WATERLOO, Canada, Sep 23, 2019 – Maplesoft announced the release of the Maple Companion, a free mobile app that complements the mathematical software product Maple. The Maple Companion app enables users to easily bring mathematical expressions into Maple simply by taking a picture. Once in Maple, the user has the full power of Maple available to solve, visualize, analyze, and explore these expressions, and incorporate them into other work.

Students can use the Maple Companion to check their homework, visualize a problem they are working on, explore variations of the problem, and more, all without having to enter the equations into Maple manually. The expressions can be handwritten, such as in the student’s own notes, or typeset, such as in a textbook. When used in conjunction with Maple, the Maple Companion app allows users to:

  • Avoid the mistakes that can occur when transcribing mathematical expressions manually
  • Save time when entering multiple equations into Maple, such as checking homework or extracting information from a reference book
  • Push math they’ll need later into Maple now, even if they don’t have their computer handy

Maplesoft sees the Maple Companion App as an important step towards leveraging AI technology to help students improve their learning and understanding of mathematics. Maplesoft is actively working with instructors and students to shape the future direction of this app.

“Students have been relying on Maplesoft technology to help them in their mathematics courses for over 30 years, and now, with the Maple Companion, they have another tool to help them succeed,” says Karishma Punwani, director of customer success at Maplesoft. “With the power of Maple behind it, and feedback from our customers informing future releases, the Maple Companion will help students learn the math that is so important in today’s world.”

The free Maple Companion app is available from the Apple App Store for iOS, and from Google Play for Android users. For more information about the Maple Companion, visit https://www.maplesoft.com/products/MapleCompanion/.
