KeyShot plug-ins with Luxion’s LiveLinking technology allows seamless integration between Autodesk Maya (shown), Autodesk 3ds Max and Autodesk Fusion 360.

The capabilities KeyShot brings to working with 3D data are extended this week with the introduction of three new plug-ins for Autodesk products. With the release of KeyShot 6 in November, users of Maya, 3ds Max and Fusion 360 now have the option to use the advanced visualization tools in KeyShot to generate high-quality renderings and animations while continuing to refine their design in the respective software. While direct import of Maya and 3ds Max files has been available in the past, the new plug-ins provide additional capabilities, including Luxion’s LiveLinking technology, for sending geometry update to KeyShot without losing any settings in KeyShot. The Fusion 360 plug-in is updated to add support for KeyShot 6. All offer a smoother workflow in the development of production-ready, marketing and sales visuals for those in the product, automotive and entertainment industries.

KeyShot for Maya Plug-in

The Maya plug-in provides the ability to Render, Update and Export Maya geometry to KeyShot. The plug-in supports Maya part and camera animations, includes support for hair and fur with per vertex radius with ability to assign a curve radius multiplier and automatic assignment of curve color randomizer texture utility, support for general curves with ability to assign a curve radius multiplier, and support for NURBS. KeyShot for 3ds Max Plug-in

The 3ds Max plug-in provides the ability to render, update and export 3ds Max geometry to KeyShot. The plug-in supports 3ds Max part and camera animations, includes support for hair and fur with per vertex radius with ability to assign a curve radius multiplier and automatic assignment of curve color randomizer texture utility, support for general curves with ability to assign a curve radius multiplier, and support for photometric lights, including point, IES, rectangle, cylindrical and spherical lights. In addition, users can take advantage of KeyShot Scripting to compile animations exported from 3ds Max, speeding the animation creation process and achieve superior results. KeyShot for Fusion 360 Plug-in

The Fusion 360 plug-in provides the ability to Render Update and Export Fusion 360 geometry to KeyShot. The plug-in maintains color assignments and assembly structure, allows tessellation refinement and export of KeyShot .bip files, and Luxion’s LiveLinking. This version of the plug-in adds updates for the latest release of Fusion 360 and support for KeyShot 6.

How It Works

After installing the plug-in, users will have a new KeyShot menu item, showing the Render, Export and Update options. Once a user selects Render to send the geometry into KeyShot, the LiveLink is established. After materials and lighting are applied in KeyShot, users may select Update from the KeyShot menu in their software, to send geometry changes back to KeyShot without losing any materials or lighting already applied. Without the need to have KeyShot installed, users may select Export to create a KeyShot .bip file, which can be opened in any standalone version of KeyShot.

Pricing and Availability

The KeyShot for Maya plug-in, KeyShot for 3ds Max plugin and KeyShot for Fusion 360 plug-in are available as a free download from the KeyShot website. The plug-ins can export a KeyShot .bip file without a license of KeyShot installed. For LiveLinking and the other advanced capabilities in each plugin, a license of KeyShot is required. A KeyShot HD license ($995) includes unlimited rendering resolution. A KeyShot Pro license ($1995) includes full KeyShot Animation capabilities. Floating licenses, Network Rendering, and KeyShotVR, for creating interactive visuals, are also available. All products may be purchased through the KeyShot website or a qualified KeyShot reseller.
