In describing the goals for these new updates XPDRAINAGE product manager Zach Sample said: “With our focus being to make projects predictable and reliable for stormwater designers, one hurdle that that many engineers face is trying to assess and design storm inlets. Making this process automated and approachable, like the rest of our workflow practices within XPDRAINAGE, was the prime focus of our 2018.2 release.

We were able to not only allow basic calculation of complex inlets and provide clarity of the surrounding impacts, but we also integrated these inlets into full hydraulic analysis so impacts and roadway spread are more realistic than before. We feel this will make engineers’ lives easier and make for much more resilient system once built.”

Some of the new capabilities made available in XPDRAINAGE 2018.2 are provided below:

HEC22 Inlet Options

Automatically calculate inlet capacity using HEC22 Methodology from plan data, analysis results or manual flow entry. Preview gutter size and effectiveness in plan and cross-section view for ease of understanding.

Import / Export Text Files (.csv, .xls and .txt)

Save time building networks by communicating with more packages with a variety of text formats. Loads and saves data for Inflows, Junctions, Connections and Stormwater Controls.

Pipe Sizing for Minimal Excavation

Updated Pipe Sizing routine to lay the flattest gradient pipes that meet required criteria will minimize excavation and reduce construction costs. In addition, automatically size to meet max velocity, size pipes downstream of flow controls and include backdrops – all with easily visible warnings summarized to aid engineering adjustments.

Rainfall Viewer

View and Export rainfall before or after analysis to check, edit and reuse rainfall generated in XPDRAINAGE.

Rainfall IDF Table Supports NOAA ATLAS 14 File Format

Comply with US Requirements to use the latest rainfall database.

FEH 2013 Support

Comply with UK Requirements to use the latest rainfall database.

These product enhancements enable engineers to improve their drainage design toolkit to combine traditional pipe and inlet design with sustainable drainage. With a series of time and cost saving features, users can more easily visualize approach and bypass flows. This simplifies the process of evaluating inlet capacity to minimize gutter spread – providing an improved understanding of what is happening in their network.
