Gilbane Building Wins Architectural Award for Innovation, Tech

LOS ANGELES, CA, June 19, 2018 – Gilbane Building Company was recently honored at the 48th annual  Los Angeles Business Council Architectural Awards on June 1, 2018 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Gilbane received the Award for Innovation and Technology in the Built Environment for the California State University Associated Students Sustainability Center project.  The university recently held a grand opening for the facility and the project was recently certified LEED Platinum by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

“Gilbane is proud of the quality outcome of the CSUN Sustainability Center through its design, construction and teamwork with Gensler and CSUN end-users. As a full team, we are excited to be the very first recipients of this new category award for Innovation and Technology in the Built Environment.” said Amy O’ Brien, business development for Gilbane Building Company.

“Gilbane was a collaborative partner committed to achieving the project’s sustainability goals,” said Nathan Kim, Principal Firmwide Education Practice Area Leader, Gensler.

The collaboration behind the CSU Associated Students Sustainability Center was unique and involved campus leadership, the CSU Institute for Sustainability, student groups, partners in architecture, and other community stakeholders. The goal was to create a multi-functional space to serve as a campus recycling collection station, a hub for student sustainability programs, and an administrative home to the Institute for Sustainability – with the center becoming the focal point for the university’s and surrounding community’s environmental and sustainability programs, which was the vision of the 30 students who led the initiative.
