Elysium Announces ASFALIS EX8.0, CADdoctor EX8.0

Releases ASFALIS EX8.0 on April 6, to Release CADdoctor EX8.0 on May 8

HAMAMATSU, Japan, Apr 6, 2018 – Elysium, a global interoperability solutions provider, announces two major version-up releases, ASFALIS EX8.0 on April 6, 2018, and CADdoctor EX8.0 on May 8. Each release includes an intensive enhancement on geometry simplification to achieve significant file size reduction in a fully-automated process. This enhancement will allow flexible adjustments on the level of simplification used and elements to exclude during the simplification process.

  • Automatic Removal of Technical Design Details
This impacts the number of faces, which greatly contributes to the file size reduction.

    • Remove holes, grooves, and protrusions
    • Replace small parts with primitive shapes (Cuboid / Cylinder / Extruded shape)

With a wave of digitization in the manufacturing industry, 3D data is playing an important role as a communication medium throughout the manufacturing process—from concept design to downstream processes including CAE analysis, manufacturing, purchasing, and sales. It is recognized as a key factor for successful digitalization to efficiently reuse design CAD models in downstream processes. Visualization format such as JT and other free CAD viewer applications are boosting this trend. On the other hand, two common requirements are arising:

  • Light-weight 3D Model Generation
Design CAD models are typically huge and complex, which need to be simplified for successful loading into CAE tools, and other systems used in downstream processes.
  • IP Protection
There is a consistent need to protect design intent within design models. Elysium’s automatic simplification tool allows users to expedite this process.

“Elysium’s existing solid enveloping functionality (hyperlink to http://www.elysium-global.com/newsarchive/product/20151130-1000.php) targets the interior parts only and aims to reduce the data size and remove any confidential information while preserving the exterior fidelity to the source model. In this release, the focus is on the file size reduction targeting both exterior and interior parts for the cases when the rough outline is sufficient for one’s need,” states Atsuto Soma, CTO of Elysium. Sample use cases include the following:

  • Production line simulation
Simplified light weight model is required; a rough size and shape is sufficient.
  • Data exchange with third parties
Light weight models are effective, provide IP protection, and are easy to share amongst suppliers.

Other Key Enhancements Include:

  • Mesh Quality Advancements for Reverse Engineering (*1)
This is effective on polygon data generated from noisy point cloud data, and dramatically improves the quality of B-rep generation.
  • Validate Tessellated Geometry against Exact Geometry(*2)
This is to verify the fidelity of the tessellated geometry prior to data collaboration to ensure that it is truly representative of the original geometry.
  • Enhanced STEP AP242 Translations for Advanced Validation
To broaden the application range of the validation of STEP AP242 data, e.g., data verification for LOTAR (Long Term Archiving and Retrieval)

    • Added support of the following;
      • From STEP AP242 translation
        • Semantic PMI
        • Tessellated geometry
      • To STEP AP242BOM XML translation
        • Assembly validation property

(*2): Available on ASFALIS only
