Eaton Releases Power Xpert XGIS Gas-insulated Switchgear

PITTSBURGH, PA, Apr 3, 2018 – Power management company Eaton has announced new gas-insulated switchgear designed to provide powerful advantages in safety and reliability for critical power applications in data centers, oil and gas, mining, process industries, and other commercial and industrial applications. With the majority of high-voltage components in a sealed compartment, Eaton’s new Power Xpert XGIS technology is designed to reduce maintenance requirements, reduce the need for operators to interface with the equipment and substantially reduce space requirements in some voltage classes.

Utilizing sealed tank design, Eaton’s Power Xpert XGIS switchgear is virtually maintenance free and can help reduce the potential for arc faults – contributing to dramatic enhancements in reliability and safety. Maintenance requirements for any equipment inside sealed tank are eliminated. Additionally, the possibility of animal intrusion and the likelihood of incidental contact are reduced by the equipment’s design.

“When it comes to electrical power distribution equipment, Eaton is a long-time industry leader with a trusted portfolio of medium-voltage solutions. Today, we’re able to offer both air and gas-insulated technologies for global applications,” said Jeremy Novotney, product line manager at Eaton. “Eaton’s Power Xpert XGIS is built to perform and last for decades, while reducing overall ownership costs through minimal maintenance and enhancing safety through robust arc protection – enabling customers to maximize space for revenue-generating equipment.”

Eaton’s gas-insulated switchgear enables energized parts to be closer together, which can significantly reduce space requirements, especially in 27 and 38 kilo-voltage classes. The equipment can be applied in both new construction and retrofit applications where floor space is limited.

Eaton’s Power Xpert XGIS can be applied in indoor applications, including both electrical rooms and integrated power assemblies or e-houses. It is third-party tested and certified to International Electrotechnical Commisssion (IEC) 62271-200.
