ESPOO, Finland, July 24, 2017 – Donges SteelTec, one of Germany’s leading steel construction companies, is leveraging Trimble’s building information modeling (BIM) solutions. The company based in Darmstadt, Germany will use 3D modeling software Tekla Structures as a central, strategic tool for model-based planning and execution in steel construction.
Tekla Structures enables smooth collaboration with project partners
For Donges, selecting a software that would ensure efficient collaboration with industry partners was key. “It was important for us to choose a tool that is the standard in steel construction and allows for good collaboration and a smooth exchange of information with project partners,” explains Thorsten Nicolay, technical director of Donges SteelTec. Tekla Structures fulfills these requirements to the point. The software has numerous interfaces to connect with other industry solutions for planning and fabrication and follows an “Open BIM” approach, facilitating the free exchange of models and building data.
In a short but extensive implementation phase, Trimble supported Donges in adapting the software to the company’s standards and workflows. Since then, Donges SteelTec has used Tekla Structures in two demanding projects. For the Turów power plant, Donges SteelTec developed both the basic and detailed engineering of the boiler support structures. In addition, the team is currently working on the launch base and tower for the new European launch vehicle Ariane 6, whose first flight is planned for 2020.
After the successful implementation of Tekla Structures, Donges SteelTec plans to expand the use of the software in the future. Apart from extending its use to other departments and workflows, using Tekla Structures for BIM plays a major role. “We know Trimble is very active in this area, and we want to identify new ways to make the best use of the software,” says Thorsten Nicolay.
