Delcam Ortho Technology Forums Draw 250+ Attendees

delcamlogoBIRMINGHAM, UK, May 27, 2015 – More than 250 delegates attended two regional Ortho Technology Forums hosted by Delcam in Canada and Australia recently, meaning that the attendance figures reached their highest levels since the events began five years ago.

More than 130 attendees took part in the Australian OTF, which took place inside this year’s Australasian Podiatry Council Conference.

Over 120 delegates attended the North American OTF at The Westin Bayshore in Vancouver, Canada, which was held as a pre-symposium event to the 2015 annual conference of the Pedorthic Association of Canada on April 16. More than 130 attendees took part in the Australian OTF on May 7, which took place inside this year’s Australasian Podiatry Council Conference at The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Center.

OTF is an event for the discussion of digital technology for orthotics and orthopaedics. It focuses on existing and emerging technologies related to custom orthoses and orthopaedics. Guest speakers at both regional OTF events lead the way in developing and using different types of technology.

Keynote speakers at the event in Canada included Jean-Francois Noel, president and owner of Landis International Inc, Thomas Bentley, president and owner of Robotic Solutions Inc, Nigel Beard, chief technology officer at Feetz, and Scott Marshall, president of KLM Labs.

North American delegates received 10 presentations in total on a variety of topics including lab productivity enhancement and automation, mass customization and robotics in orthotics.

Jeff Lewis from Footwork Orthotic London Inc attended the OTF in Vancouver and said: “I was delightfully surprised by how informative this day was. I’m looking forward to the next one.”

OTF delegates in Australia heard presentations from Prof Jim Woodburn, Dr Navaporn Chadchavalpanichaya and Clifton Bradeley, among others. Prof Woodburn delivered a presentation that asked whether 3D printed foot orthoses are over hyped or a new paradigm. Dr Navaporn addressed delegates on the function of total contact orthosis for the treatment of diabetes and posteria tibial tendon dysfunction citing her work as a podiatrist in Thailand. Then Clifton Bradeley demonstrated his Digital Pelvic Inclinometer as part of a presentation detailing how to quantify MSK Dysfunction in clinical practice using technology.

Jessica Scolieri attended the OTF inside this year’s APodC and said: “The presentations were extremely thorough. It was very exciting to look at how potential technologies could be used in our industry.”
