Carlson Scan Released for C-ALS, Void Scanner

MAYSVILLE, KY, Oct 23, 2019 – Carlson Scan has just been released for enhanced operation of Carlson’s C-ALS, C-ALS Gyro, Void Scanner, and, soon-to-be-released, VS+ laser scanning systems.

Designed for ruggedized, touchscreen tablets, Carlson Scan was developed for in-the-field use and features a smooth interface to control the scanner, analyze the collected data, and produce a deliverable. The software includes a quickstart mode with a single-click project setup and instrument auto-detection. A desktop mode is available for reviewing and editing in the office.

The powerful software provides real-time surfacing and volume calculation from raw scan data for the production of closed 3D models and volumes. Users can import existing point clouds and surfaces to see real-time comparisons with design data or previous surveys. A live view of the heading, inclination, and activity of the animated probe can be seen at all times.

“Carlson Scan’s touchscreen mode and simplified interface have been tailored for mining field operations,” says LMD special projects engineer Brad Husack, B.Sc. “This allows crews to spend less time underground, and with real-time visualizations, collect more accurate results.”

Carlson Scan 1.0 is offered free of charge for any owners of the Carlson C-ALS or Void Scanner systems. Both lines of instruments are a part of the Carlson Laser Measurement Division (LMD) product family.

The Carlson C-ALS enables laser scanning of air-filled voids to create geo-referenced 3D models of subsurface conditions as a cost-savings and more accurate alternative to systematic drilling. The system is designed to increase safety, provide detailed project reports, and support designing solutions.

The Carlson Void Scanner system is a survey and inspection tool designed for use in extreme environments to encourage safety and accuracy. The ruggedized system uses time-of-flight laser measurement to map the shape, position, and spatial location of cavities quickly.

Carlson Scan requires a 64 bit Windows 7 SP1 or higher operating system and it is recommended that the latest CPU/GPU drivers are installed on the operating computer. It is also recommended users have at least 2GB of available hard drive space prior to installation.
