Building Innovation 2015 Keynote Speakers Announced

nibs-logoWASHINGTON, DC, Nov 13, 2014 – Attendees of Building Innovation 2015: The National Institute of Building Sciences Conference and Expo will hear a variety of unique perspectives focused on Creating High-Performing Resilient Communities when they attend the scheduled keynote addresses during the four-day event, to be held January 6-9, at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, DC.

111314_KeynoteSpeakersOn Tuesday, January 6, the Institute’s various councils and committees will hold their annual board and leadership meetings and James “Tim” T. Ryan, CBO, chairman of the Institute’s Board of Directors and code administrator for the city of Overland Park, Kansas, will give the keynote during the day’s luncheon, sponsored by the International Code Council. Ryan, will talk about the importance of leadership and collaboration in reaching industry goals – particularly in advancing high performance and resiliency. He will focus on the role the Institute’s councils and committees play in supporting the mission of the Institute and realizing high-performing, resilient communities.

On Wednesday, January 7, Bryan Koon, president of the National Emergency Management Association and director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management, will kick-off the educational/technical portion of the Conference when he provides the opening keynote address. Koon will address the importance of community-level approaches to resilience, hazard mitigation and emergency management. He will focus on the resources and tools necessary to advance the incorporation of mitigation into project- and community-level planning.

On Thursday, January 8, during the Beyond Green Awards Luncheon, the winners of the Beyond Green High-Performance Building Awards will accept their plaques, present their award-winning projects, and have an opportunity to discuss the challenges and opportunities they faced while delivering high-performance buildings.

On Friday, January 9, during the FEDCon Lunch, sponsored by Lehigh Hanson, Norman Dong, commissioner of the Public Buildings Service (PBS) for the US General Services Administration (GSA), will discuss GSA workplace initiatives, focus on performance (including the new P100 Facilities Standards) and the results from projects funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

This great lineup of industry leaders will occur in conjunction with a host of council and committee meetings during the week, an exhibit hall and banquet, as well as five educational symposia, including: the Security & Disaster Preparedness Symposium: Means and Methods for Creating Resilient Communities; Information Resources & Technology Symposium: Improving Facilities with the Power of Information; Industry Leadership & Advocacy Symposium: Leading the Way to High-Performing Communities; Facility Performance & Sustainability Symposium: Setting the Foundation for Resilient Communities; and the Plenary Symposium: Creating High-Performing Resilient Communities. In addition, the Institute will hold Special Session 1 – Ten Years after “Mitigation Saves”: An Examination of the Value of Private-Sector Investment in Mitigation.
