ATP’s R&D Department Selects MSC’s Marc

NEWPORT BEACH, CA, Oct 6, 2017 – MSC Software Corporation announced that the R&D department of ATP S.p.A. has chosen MSC’s  Marc  (non-linear simulation software tool)  to improve the quality of their elastomer and plastic components.

ATP is a leading Italian company that produces sealing systems, gaskets, and bushings. They supply components to the automotive, aerospace, heavy machinery, and several other industries.

In the past ATP had been working with their OEM customers using physical parts, which required physical prototyping and testing to validate each design. With Marc, ATP can now iterate with their customers using virtual models, which in turns speeds-up the overall part design process, and helps them be more responsive to their customer’s design changes.

Engineers at ATP use Marc to fit experimental data of non-linear materials, and run high fidelity contact analysis, including large deformations. ATP then compares the results with the performance criteria and engineering targets provided by their OEM customers related to limit stress, deformation, and contact condition. With this, ATP can perform multiple design iterations on the parts they produce, before the OEM assembly design is final.

This co-engineering workflow allows ATP to provide its customer with better service, faster turn-around time, and shorten the final product overall development cycle. “We are very proud to have an integrated design with FEM analysis,” says ATP CEO, Lorenzo Simoncini. “Using Marc within the design process allows us to optimize the contour profile by reducing material wear and consequently lengthen the operational life of our solutions”.

“Marc is well suited to solve challenging contact problems of rubber and thermoplastic parts where understanding of nonlinear material is critical,” says Ted Wertheimer, director, Product Management. “We look forward to a strong partnership with ATP as the advance their engineering method.”

About ATP SpA

ATP was born in Modena in 1975 as a reseller of technical articles. In the late 1980s, the company added to the sale of standard products the design of customized solutions, starting its transformation from commercial to production.

With 55 employees, two production sites and one plant, today ATP is a solid and steadily growing company, where the production department contributes to 80% of sales. Design and construction of sealing systems is the core business. High quality and innovation characterize the company that has always invested in research, technology and control equipment. Employee safety, social and environmental responsibility are the indispensable points of business policy.
