Assystem, Dassault Partner for Nuclear Engineering

3DS_dassault_logoPARIS, France, June 29, 2016 – Dassault Systèmes, the 3DEXPERIENCE company, world leader in 3D design software, 3D digital mock up and product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions, and Assystem, the leading European engineering company, today announced that they have extended their collaboration to the nuclear engineering sector. This collaboration aims to improve the management and industrial performance of complex engineering projects by using digital technologies.

Assystem’s Energy and Infrastructure division will deploy Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform to build a new information system for its engineering missions on nuclear facilities, to support engineering data management, configuration management, procurement, program management and resourcing capabilities.

Dassault Systèmes will leverage this collaboration with Assystem to deepen the identification of specific challenges and needs of the nuclear sector.  This knowledge will be used to develop future industry solution experiences based on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform that can digitally transform processes and methodologies, improve efficiency and, ultimately, enhance the owner and operator experience.

Nuclear power plants and other large assets have a lifecycle of about 50 years, making safety, compliance and delivery critical.  Owners and operators face design, construction, operations and maintenance challenges due to limited resources, tight margins, high operational risk, and complex stakeholder communication, among other factors. The 3DEXPERIENCE platform connects all stakeholders, and ensures data traceability and alignment with compliance, requirements and specifications throughout the engineering phase.

“As the demand for energy increases, so does pressure to optimize the use of global resources, and this can only be achieved through greater scientific and engineering innovation,” said Thomas Grand, vice president, Energy, Process and Utilities Industry, Dassault Systèmes. “Together with Assystem and its engineering expertise, the 3DEXPERIENCE platform can support the full development of equipment and plants by enabling the virtual integration of their entire lifecycle requirements from the outset, improving safety, efficiency, profitability and sustainability.”

“Thanks to our 50 years of experience in nuclear, we have acquired a first-hand understanding of the operational challenges and needs of operators of nuclear facilities,” said Stéphane Aubarbier, CEO of Assystem’s Energy and Infrastructure division. “Given our large presence in the automotive and aerospace industries, we also have in-depth understanding of the use of engineering digital tools in the industry. Assystem is therefore ideally placed to capitalize on its dual experience in nuclear and digital technologies for the benefit of its clients. The new partnership with Dassault Systèmes enhances our unique positioning in the support to clients aimed at the improvement of the performance of their nuclear infrastructures thanks to digital technologies.”

This collaboration is the latest between the two companies. In April 2015, Dassault Systèmes and Assystem announced a partnership for the development and delivery of personalized aircraft cabins with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and Assystem’s system integration and engineering services. In the nuclear sector, Assystem is already using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform for all of its engineering activities in the U.K., for a waste management project for the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) and for the research project ITER.
