Multidisciplinary PLM for Complex Product Design

With Aras Innovator connected to Altium Vault, the Altium centralized database for ECAD design data, global businesses can efficiently manage multidisciplinary bill of materials and enterprise-level configuration, change, and requirements management. This provides engineers with full product visibility, breaking down departmental and functional silos and enabling cross-discipline collaboration between mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines.

“Electronics designers must worry not only about a PCB’s circuit design and layout, but also how it will fit into the design of the final product,” said Jason Hingston, CTO of Altium. “By connecting Altium to the Aras PLM solution, we are providing a way for business to seamlessly integrate electronic, mechanical, and software data into the as-designed documents and to access all relevant information throughout the entire product lifecycle.”

Current integration features allow for the seamless transfer of released design and manufacturing data from Altium into Aras Innovator. This includes:

  • Bi-directional collaboration between electronic and mechanical domains
  • Management of electromechanical BOM configurations
  • Full synchronization of lifecycle states
  • Unified control of release revisions and the change management process

“As product complexity increases, a holistic, systems approach to product development that encompasses both mechanical and electrical components is needed,” said Peter Schroer, president of Aras. “By partnering with Altium, we are able to provide Aras users with access to leading ECAD design tools from Altium, as well as provide a unified platform for managing ECAD design components along with other components throughout the design workflow.”

This partnership, in combination with other PDM and PLM solutions, enables Aras to provide the only fully integrated PLM and PDM platform for multidisciplinary product design, development, and manufacturing. With integrations for all major MCAD, ECAD, and ALM tools, Aras Innovator offers a platform for comprehensive systems engineering of multidisciplinary electromechanical products that spans all stages of the lifecycle.
