AMT Donates MakerGear 3D Printer to Primoris Academy in NJ

amt_logoMCLEAN, VA, Apr 15, 2016 – AMT – The Association for Manufacturing Technology presented a MakerGear 3D printer to Primoris Academy (NJ) to help advance the school’s mission of preparing students in STEM education and to interest more students in careers in manufacturing and engineering.

Funds for the purchase of the 3D printer were made available through a generous, anonymous donation by a former AMT board member, through their family’s charitable foundation. “We are very pleased and proud to be supporting schools like Primoris Academy, which are preparing the next generation of STEM-capable students,” said Greg Jones, vice president, Smartforce Development, AMT – The Association for Manufacturing Technology. “AMT is committed to initiatives that will develop workers with the skills needed for today’s advanced manufacturing industry. With access to tools like this 3D printer, students at Primoris Academy will have the opportunity to more deeply use their creativity and then see their ideas come to life through 3D printing technology.”

“In addition to the desire to improve its STEM program, Primoris Academy was selected because of the commitment of the school’s technology teacher, administrators and parents in the community who are actively engaged on behalf of their students,” Jones said.

“The faculty, administration, students and parents at Primoris Academy are excited that AMT has selected us for this 3D printer, which will be a great complement to our curriculum in STEM and the arts,” said Dr. Fay Sharit, associate director of Primoris Academy. “This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to use their creativity while also learning new technology skills.”

AMT is committed to supporting the national movement to put 3D printers in every school in the United States. In that effort, AMT hosts the Smartforce Student Summit at The International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) to be held from September 12-17, 2016. This year’s Student Summit will feature a dynamic 3D printing challenge and many other exciting, interactive exhibits and activities.
