Aberdeen City Council Expands InfoWorks ICM Purchase

Innovyze_LogoBROOMFIELD, CO, June 7, 2016 – Innovyze, a leading global innovator of business analytics software and technologies for smart wet infrastructure, today announced that Aberdeen City Council, UK, has expanded its purchase of InfoWorks ICM, the industry’s leading integrated catchment modeling solution, to support its local flood risk management program. The software’s powerful 1D and 2D modeling capabilities, predictive analytics and powerful simulation extensions will better position Aberdeen to implement an effective, reliable strategy for local flood risk management and maintain regulatory compliance.

Aberdeen, a city of over 223,000, lies at the heart of a Scottish region recognized for its enviably high quality of life. It effortlessly combines the benefits of metropolitan living with a range of sporting activities and outdoor pursuits, and easy access to the stunning scenery of Royal Deeside and the beautiful North East coast. The city faces six main potential sources of flood risk: rivers (fluvial), the sea (coastal), surface water (pluvial), groundwater, drainage and sewers and infrastructure failure (e.g., reservoir or canal breaches).

“InfoWorks ICM is an important component of our strategic flood risk assessment program,” said Miquel Vinyals, civil engineer for the structures, flooding and coastal engineering division of Aberdeen City Council. “The software is assisting us in planning optimal flood defense schemes to best protect our stakeholders.”

A hallmark of InfoWorks ICM is its dynamic integration of one-dimensional hydrodynamic simulation of flows in rivers, open channels, and pipe networks with two-dimensional hydrodynamic simulation of surface flooding in the urban environment and river floodplain. The industry-leading software provides a powerful solution for simultaneously modeling below ground and above ground elements of catchments to accurately represent all flow paths and improve understanding of processes occurring in the holistic environment. The software also takes into account interactions of natural and man-made environments and effectively simulates the water quality impact of polluting runoff and effluent from urban areas. Such advanced capabilities greatly enhance waste water utilities’ ability to predict overflows; support cost-effective drainage design and management; develop online urban flooding forecasts; conceive and evaluate sound and reliable urban catchment strategies such as storm sewer separation, active real-time control, and provision of adequate additional storage; and improve the operation of any drainage system.

“We are delighted to build on our relationship with Aberdeen City Council and are confident that our products can deliver on the critical framework they need to support their strategic flood risk assessment program,” said Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D., BCEEM, Hon.D.WRE, Dist.D.NE, Dist.M.ASCE, NAE, president, COO and chief innovation officer of Innovyze. “InfoWorks ICM will help the City gain a better understanding of current and future extents and impacts of flooding in its areas. The software’s powerful features will greatly help them improve emergency planning and recovery, and develop the solution that best meets their business challenges. We look forward to continue being a vital part of their continued success.”
