TechShop Partners with Autodesk for Inventor/Tinkerer Workshops

MENLO PARK, CA, Sep 8, 2010 - TechShop Inc. is partnering with Autodesk, Inc. to bolster the ability of TechShop members to bring their dreams to life - everything from laser-cut metal flowers and custom-welded bike frames to a gyroscopic, motorized bar stool.

With existing locations in Menlo Park, California, and Durham, North Carolina - and locations in San Francisco, California, and San Jose, California, opening up soon -TechShop is a member-based workshop where inventors, hackers, tinkerers, artists, entrepreneurs, and arts and crafts enthusiasts go to build the things they have always wanted to make.

Autodesk will provide TechShop locations with its leading portfolio of Digital Prototyping software, so that TechShop members can better design, visualize and simulate their ideas. The donated software includes copies of AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor Professional, Autodesk Inventor Fusion Technology Preview, Autodesk Inventor Publisher, Autodesk Alias Design, Autodesk Showcase, Autodesk SketchBook Pro, and Autodesk Mudbox. Autodesk will also provide high-end workstations to run the software within the TechShop collaborative work areas.

As part of the partnership, Autodesk will train TechShop’s in-house experts, so that they, in turn, can train members on how to effectively use and benefit from the software. Further underscoring their commitment to the TechShop community, Autodesk employees will participate in the various TechShop locations as active and contributing members.

“TechShop’s goal is to empower members with a wide variety of new capabilities so that they can make new, exciting things and build their dreams,” said Mark Hatch, chief executive officer of TechShop. “Our partnership with Autodesk aligns perfectly with this vision.”

“The maker movement is one of the most exciting and inspiring developments of recent years,” said Carl Bass, Autodesk president and CEO. “Autodesk is thrilled to nurture this creative community to more easily take their ideas from concept through fabrication.”
