Stratasys to Host Charity Auction for Dimension 3D Printer

Dimension SST 1200es 3D printer used in Jay Leno's Garage to be auctioned from a minimum bid of $10K

MINNEAPOLIS, MN, Dec 2, 2009 - Dimension 3D Printing, a brand of Stratasys Inc. (NASDAQ: SSYS), today announced that it will auction the Dimension SST 1200es 3D printer used in Jay Leno’s Garage and donate the proceeds to a charity he supports. The winning bid will receive a complete Dimension 3D printing system with a one-year warranty, along with a NextEngine 3D scanner.

Dimension 3D Printers create plastic models directly from any 3D CAD (computer aided design) program, using ABS plastic. The printer and scanner used in Leno’s Big Dog Garage have been publicized in magazines such as Popular Mechanics and Men’s Journal as well as featured on JayLenosGarage.com. The printer will be autographed by Leno prior to the auction.

The staff at Leno’s garage has used the printer and scanner to create obsolete or hard-to-find parts for his classic cars. "The Dimension 3D printer has been a great help in the Big Dog Garage,” said garage manager Bernard Juchli. “When we got the printer, we didn't know the variety of ways we could use it, or that it would allow us to approach projects differently. We printed models of a heat exchanger for a White steam car and used them to make patterns for sand casting. On that one job, we saved about $5,000 in casting costs alone."

Details for Auction Participation

  • The auction is open to residents of US and Canada only.
  • The minimum bid is $10,000 USD.
  • The auction begins at 8 a.m., Eastern Time, Monday, Dec. 7, and ends 9 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday, Dec. 14.
  • To participate in the auction, visit www.ebay.com after the starting time listed above, item # 280429201810
  • To receive an email reminder of the auction, or for more information, visit www.dimensionprinting.com/auction.

Proceeds of the auction will go to Bailey’s Café, an educational and cultural organization dedicated to building community and intergenerational relationships in Central Brooklyn. Through various initiatives, Bailey’s participants learn about themselves and each other – their commonalities and their differences. Together they build a stronger, healthier community.
