CONCORD, MA, Sep 30, 2008 - SpaceClaim, the world’s first Natural 3D Design system, today announced that Chris Randles has been appointed President and CEO and has joined the Board of Directors. Randles replaces co-founder Michael Payne, who continues as Chairman of the Board.

“SpaceClaim is poised to leverage extensive opportunities in bringing 3D design to everyone,” said Payne. “Our collective wealth of experience in the software design industry has brought a unique understanding of how to make complex design easy, affordable, precise and fast. It took a fresh perspective and, as an emerging player, SpaceClaim is driving the necessary innovation. We welcome Chris to our team and look forward to the next phase of our growth.”

Randles most recently was Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Borealis Ventures. Prior, Randles led the management buyout of Mathsoft and served as its Chairman, President and CEO until the company was acquired by PTC (Parametric Technology Corporation). Earlier, Randles was Senior Vice President and GM of the Engineering and Education Division of Mathsoft. Under his leadership, Mathsoft was transformed into a fast-growing and profitable provider of analysis and documentation solutions for engineering enterprises around the world.

“Innovation drives new market opportunities and SpaceClaim has created a breakthrough 3D design and modeling tool that shortens development cycles, increases productivity and improves collaboration,” said Randles. “As an emerging company, SpaceClaim is broadening its reach into markets that are underserved by existing 3D design tools, including conceptual design, CAE and manufacturing. I look forward to leading the highly talented team at SpaceClaim and to working closely with our customers and strategic industry partners.”

SpaceClaim Professional represents a new class of 3D productivity tool that is optimized for design and conceptual engineering, manufacturing engineering and computer-aided-engineering (CAE) model preparation. Introduced in 2007, SpaceClaim Professional requires minimal training and extends 3D modeling functionality to engineers and designers engaged in mechanical design. Customers who create solid models early in the design process with SpaceClaim software spend less time detailing changes, modifications or revisions. SpaceClaim is also optimized to manage history-based data to ensure these existing concepts and designs can be re-used in other areas of the design-to-manufacture process. The software is competitively priced and requires minimal training, ensuring a rapid return on investment and a low total cost of ownership.

“We pride ourselves on identifying and partnering with exceptional entrepreneurs who are creating and redefining applications and markets,” said Richard D’Amore, Partner, North Bridge Venture Partners. “SpaceClaim is literally transforming 3D design, combining a highly flexible design environment with maximum usability. As with many prior technology breakthroughs, making a vital process easy, faster and less costly opens up new markets. We look forward to SpaceClaim’s continuing emergence and growth under the proven leadership of Chris Randles.”

SpaceClaim continues to partner with market-leading companies; to win new customers; and to drive product innovations. SpaceClaim recently announced a partnership with Bunkspeed, the leading provider of 3D rendering visualization software, to enable users to create photographic renderings of 3D designs directly from SpaceClaim. Earlier this year ALGOR, a leading provider of design, analysis and simulation software, and ANSYS, which develops, markets, and supports engineering simulation software, announced technology partnerships with SpaceClaim to offer users a complete design-to-analysis solution and a unique CAE workflow. SpaceClaim and Robert McNeel & Associates additionally announced the integration of SpaceClaim LTX and the very popular stylized surfacing software, Rhinoceros.

About SpaceClaim Corporation

SpaceClaim is the world’s first Natural 3D Design system – empowering users to create and edit models faster than ever before. SpaceClaim lets you design the way you think, interacting directly with the model in the way you intend, making even dramatic design edits naturally, and independently of how the part was created. SpaceClaim’s team of executives and developers – the inventors of feature-based modeling – have created a quantum leap in engineering productivity, a Natural 3D Design system that’s accessible to everyone from power users to part-time designers.
