CONCORD, MA, Apr 30, 2008 - SolidWorks 2008, the latest version of the leading 3D CAD software, has won a 2007 NASA Tech Briefs Readers’ Choice Product of the Year Award, capping months of industry recognition for SolidWorks Corporation and its products.

SolidWorks Corporation representatives accepted the award last week at The Water Club in New York City. “This means a lot to us because we know that NASA Tech Briefs readers are indicative of CAD users everywhere,” said Rainer Gawlick, vice president of worldwide marketing for SolidWorks Corporation. “We focus on providing a product that our customers use to design better products, and this award strongly suggests they are.”

Each month, the magazine names a product of the month. SolidWorks 2008, launched in June 2007, was the product of the month for July 2007. NASA Tech Briefs’ 190,000-plus readers selected SolidWorks 2008 from a dozen products of the month from 2007. Readers cast their votes for the product they thought was the most significant new product introduced to the engineering community in 2007.

“SolidWorks 2008 was selected by our readers for its value to engineers, who understand innovation better than anyone,” said Linda L. Bell, editorial director of NASA Tech Briefs. “Readers are users and, as such, invest money in the software. The fact that they went a step further and named it a product of the year speaks volumes.”

In March, SolidWorks Corporation was named to the START-IT 125 for 2008, a directory of the most influential technology providers in the manufacturing space, by START-IT magazine. Companies are selected by the editors of START-IT and its editorial advisory board.

In February, Control Engineering magazine revealed that SolidWorks 2008 captured the most readers’ votes in its Engineers’ Choice Award in the application and programming software/applications category. Each year Control Engineering receives hundreds of new product announcements, spanning the entire spectrum of industrial automation and control technologies. Through the magazine’s annual Engineers’ Choice Award competition, readers say which products are the most noteworthy and will have the greatest impact on their business.

SolidWorks customers are also winning awards. Fresno Valves & Castings Inc., E.J. Ajax and Sons Inc., Kimberley Kampers Pty Ltd, and Livingston & Haven were recently named to Managing Automation magazine’s Progressive Manufacturing 50. All four named SolidWorks software as a key technology enabling their success.
