UGS, Roush Fenway Racing Announce Technology Partnership
PLANO,
Texas, July 2, 2007 - UGS PLM Software, a division of Siemens Automation and
Drives (A&D) and a leading global provider of product lifecycle management
(PLM) software and services, and Roush Fenway Racing today announced a
technology sponsorship partnership formed earlier this year through which
Roush Fenway Racing develops cars with the help of UGS PLM Software’s
digital product development technology.
Roush Fenway Racing began using UGS PLM Software technology for the
design and evolution of its race cars which compete in NASCAR’s three
premier series, the NEXTEL Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck Series. This
multi-year partnership agreement transforms the longstanding relationship
into an official technology partnership between UGS PLM Software and the
Roush Fenway Racing team. Since 1999 Roush Fenway has been utilizing UGS PLM
Software’s digital product development solutions, to reduce part development
time and virtually evaluate various configurations to enhance overall
performance of the race cars.
Roush Fenway Racing has a tradition of winning. Most recently, driver
Carl Edwards won the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series at Michigan International
Speedway and earlier this season driver Matt Kenseth swept both the Busch
and NEXTEL Cup Series races at California Speedway in the No. 17 Carhartt/DEWALT
Ford and the No. 17 Dish Network Ford respectively. This was Kenseth’s
second consecutive Auto Club 500 win and sixth at California Speedway – two
NASCAR NEXTEL Cup and four Busch Series wins -- extending his mark as the
all-time win leader at the 2.0-mile, Fontana, Calif. D-shaped oval.
Roush Fenway Racing currently uses UGS NX software, UGS PLM Software’s
digital product development solution, for computer-aided design and
engineering (CAD/CAE) and plans to implement the UGS Teamcenter portfolio,
UGS PLM Software’s digital lifecycle management solution and the world’s
most widely used PLM portfolio, in the coming months.
“In racing every second counts and UGS PLM Software’s PLM technology
gives Roush Fenway Racing an edge in development, making us more competitive
on the track,” said Jim Ryder, Roush Fenway Racing engineer. “UGS PLM
Software’s digital development platform allows us to experiment with
multiple configurations to figure out what works best and put the best car
on the track each week. UGS PLM Software’s state-of-the-art technology is
the best in the industry and we are delighted with our new partnership.”
“UGS PLM Software is thrilled to partner with Roush Fenway Racing, a team
that is committed to success and has a winning legacy,” said Dave Shirk,
executive vice president of Global Marketing for UGS PLM Software. “UGS PLM
Software has a record of helping our customers succeed; this includes our
racing teams which have won every NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Championship since 2000.
“Racing sponsorships allows UGS PLM Software to showcase its industry
leading PLM technology in action. More than ever before, technology is an
enabler -- a way to gain fractions of seconds that mean the difference
between winning and losing,” added Shirk.
A Tradition of Technology and Tracks
UGS PLM Software has a long tradition providing UGS NX and UGS Teamcenter
through racing sponsorships. Hendrick Motorsports, winner of the 2006 NASCAR
NEXTEL Cup Championship; Joe Gibbs Racing, winner of the 2005 NASCAR NEXTEL
Cup Championship; Roush Fenway Racing, winner of the 2003 and 2004 NASCAR
NEXTEL Cup Championship; and Andretti Green Racing, winner of the 2004 and
2005 Indy Racing League (IRL) IndyCar Series Championship; have been using
UGS PLM Software for several years to help develop their cars and improve
their performance on the race track. KB Racing, winner of the National Hot
Rod Association (NHRA) Pro Stock Championship for four straight years, began
using UGS PLM Software technology in 2005, and the Renault F1 Team, winner
of the 2005 Formula One Drivers and Constructors Championships, established
a partnership in 2004 using UGS Tecnomatix software, UGS PLM Software’s
best-in-class digital manufacturing solution.
