UGS PLM Opens PLM Training Centers at China's Universities
SHANGHAI,
China, June 4, 2007 - UGS PLM Software, a division of Siemens Automation and
Drives (A&D) and a leading global provider of product lifecycle management
(PLM) software and services, today announced the opening of PLM Training
Centers at leading universities throughout China made possible by the
company’s in-kind software grants. These newly established training centers
at the following institutions will certify thousands of undergraduate and
graduate students annually, thus enabling the universities to support local
manufacturers with quality engineers who are trained on the latest industry
software.
- South China University of Technology (SCUT)
- Shanghai University of Engineering Science (SUES)
- Shanghai University (SU)
- Dalian University of Technology (DUT)
The in-kind grants were made through UGS PLM Software’s Global
Opportunities in Product Lifecycle Management (GO PLM) initiative, which
leads the PLM industry in the commercial value of in-kind grants it provides
at more than US$4 billion annually. The company’s GO PLM initiative brings
together five complementary programs focused on academic partnership;
community relations; regional productivity; youth and displaced worker
development; and the Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative
Engineering Education (PACE) program. The initiative provides PLM technology
to more than 915,000 students annually at nearly 9,000 global institutions,
where it is used at every academic level – from grade schools to graduate
engineering research programs.
“Our university has maintained an excellent partnership with UGS PLM
Software,” said Professor Wang Hong, president of SUES. “Dated back to 1998,
the College of Automotive Engineering introduced the company’s software and
used it as part of curriculum for undergraduates. Now we are happy to
announce that more colleges will be added as users of this outstanding
software, namely College of Mechanical Engineering, College of Material
Engineering, and the SUES/PLM Training Center. UGS PLM Software not only
provides superior software for our university but also offers quality NX
Certifications via the GO PLM Program.
“UGS PLM Software is exclusively beneficial in terms of developing
students’ intelligence and enhancing their practical skills. Those students
who receive training are highly spoken of by their employers for the great
achievements in their work. This win/win program showcases the vision and
wisdom of top executives within UGS PLM Software.”
In 2006, UGS PLM Software announced grants to institutions in China worth
more than $1.1 billion (see separate release). Over the past 10 years, UGS
PLM Software has made in-kind grants of its software to approximately 450
academic institutions in China. These institutions are helping to address
the growing demand for experienced engineers and technologists in the
Chinese manufacturing market by integrating UGS PLM Software and GO PLM
Certification Programs into their curriculum.
“To prosper in today’s digital economy, it is no longer enough for
manufacturers to out perform direct competition on a one-to-one basis,” said
Dave Shirk, executive vice president, Global Marketing, UGS PLM Software.
“They must manage their product life cycles in close collaboration with
suppliers, business allies and trusted customers to be market leaders. Our
GO PLM program helps to address essential business issues our customers face
- the shrinking supply of skilled employees and the gap between current
worker skills and the level of performance required in today’s global
manufacturing market. We are proud to be associated with these universities
and help them serve their local manufacturers with top quality engineers.”
