Parasolid, D-Cubed Integrate with IronCAD 3D Connector
PLANO,
TX, Mar 7, 2011 – Siemens PLM Software,
a business unit of the Siemens Industry Automation Division and a leading global
provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, and
IronCAD, Inc., a leading provider of design collaboration solutions, today
announced that IronCAD’s new 3D Connector software, part of IRONCAD Draft, is
now integrated with Siemens PLM Software’s
Parasolid software, the world’s most widely used 3D geometric modeling
component, and three
D-Cubed software components for constraint solving and collision detection.
“The Parasolid and D-Cubed components have for many years been making critical
contributions to the fundamental capabilities of IRONCAD, our full feature 3D
part and assembly modeling product,” said Cary O’Connor, Vice President of
Marketing for IronCAD. “We’re delighted to be able to make further use of these
components in IRONCAD Draft, allowing users to leverage constraint information
from their 3D models in the context of a dedicated drafting and detailing tool.”
IRONCAD Draft is a 2D drafting tool with a new 3D integration capability
enabled by 3D Connector. Leveraging its new integration with Parasolid, users
can now import 3D model data – from suppliers, customers and colleagues –
created with any software product capable of outputting the widely used
Parasolid geometry format, such as IRONCAD or a wide range of third party
applications. The data can be viewed, analyzed, rendered and referenced as the
user produces drawings using the various 2D mechanical drafting functions in
IRONCAD Draft.
In addition, any 3D models imported from IRONCAD can be repositioned under
the control of any existing dimensions and constraints using Siemens PLM
Software’s D-Cubed 2D and 3D Dimensional Constraint Managers (DCMs). This allows
the user to reconfigure a constrained model to meet the requirements of a
specific 2D drafting or detailing task. Using the D-Cubed Collision Detection
Manager (CDM) users can also quickly verify that new configurations do not
result in colliding parts.
“IronCAD has been effectively leveraging our PLM Components for several years
to help maximize the value they deliver to their customers,” said Joan Hirsch,
vice president, Product Design Solutions, Siemens PLM Software. “With the
deployment of Parasolid and various D-Cubed components in their new product,
IronCAD has extended the use of our components across their product lines with
minimum effort. The re-use of PLM Components enables innovative companies like
IronCAD to rapidly and cost-effectively deliver new capabilities that create
even more value for their customers. We are proud that the proven and flexible
integration architecture of our high quality component software continues to
provide benefits for all our customers.”

About PLM Components: Parasolid and D-Cubed
PLM Components are software tools that support innovation and promote
interoperability in CAD, CAM, CAE and PLM applications. Siemens PLM Software
develops these components, uses them throughout its own applications and
licenses them to independent software vendors and end-user organizations. PLM
Components include the Parasolid and D-Cubed software products, widely used
technologies that provide 3D part and assembly modeling, editing and
interoperability, 2D/3D parametric sketching, motion simulation, collision
detection, clearance measurement and visualization functionality. Applications
include mechanical CAD, CAM, CAE, mold design, sheet metal, AEC, GIS,
structural, plant and ship design, CMM, reverse engineering and sales
configuration. For more information, please visit
