Schott Ships Pictures by PC 3.4 3D CAM Modeler

MUNICH, Germany, Jan 20, 2010 - Schott Systeme GmbH, a developer of CAD/CAM solutions has launched an intermediate update for their design and manufacturing software, Pictures by PC 3.4. This update incorporates a number of enhancements in the area of modeling, machining and technical documentation.

Focusing on construction, the company has extended the abilities of their existing hybrid solid, surface and mesh modeling suite. Improvements to the modeler now make the construction of complex conceptual features far easier. In addition, when combined with the software’s feature recognition capabilities, a far greater range of model features can now be extracted and ‘directly’ modified without the need of a parametric feature ‘history’ tree. This hybrid suite also sees the introduction of mesh healing, to help identify and repair problems in imported STL models.

With ease of machining in mind, enhancements to CAM include a selection of ‘ready made’ machining strategies. Building on the software’s ability to allow customers to setup and save preferred methods of machining, this catalogue of operations helps new customers to choose and apply the correct strategy in only a couple of mouse clicks. This proves especially useful when dealing with the application of more complex milling operations such as 5 axis machining. Generally the customer is then only left with the decision of which tool and cutting parameters to use, with this new update also now incorporating a ‘cutting data’ calculator to automatically determine the actual tool feed relating to the feed per tooth.

Finally to complement Schott Systeme’s technical documentation suite, the company has now integrated 3D PDF into their ‘Business Graphics’ module. Although 3D PDF is not a new technology, this has been integrated into the software’s ‘linked’ PDF’s, whereby all of a project's documentation can be graphically organized, and automatically converted into a single PDF, complete with the ability to navigate the projects links within the PDF.

About Schott Systeme GmbH

Celebrating over 25 years of CAD/CAM development, Schott Systeme continue to develop the same software solution originally launched back in 1983. Starting out as one of the very first vector based graphics packages for the PC, their product 'Pictures by PC' as the name suggests, has evolved into one of the most mature CAD/CAM and technical documentation products available today. Being a fully integrated 2D/3D CAD, CAM and graphics package, Pictures caters for all aspects of workshop machining, through to product design and documentation.
