Quantapoint Releases QuantaCAD 8.0 for Laser Models

the release of QuantaCAD 8.0. QuantaCAD puts reality into your design
software by enabling facilities digitized using laser scanning to be
accessed as award-winning high-definition Laser Models and photo-realistic

The latest version incorporates a number of new capabilities based on
user feedback to better support the design and engineering lifecycle. The
new capabilities in QuantaCAD include:
- Significantly improved memory management so that more Laser Models
may be loaded.
- Extremely fast clashing of Laser Models against CAD models,
including clashing within SmartPlant Review.
- Demolition groups may be colored to visually identify demolition
work packages for construction teams.
- An elbow demolition selection shape is now available.
- Certified tie/tag points may be imported directly into QuantaCAD as
starting points for design.
- Point, distance and pipe measurements may now be made within Laser
Images.
- CAD models may be automatically back-projected in 3D into Laser
Images in real-time.
- Certified tie points and user added tag points may be automatically
back-projected in 3D into Laser Images in real-time.
- Users may “walk” through the Digitized Facility from Laser Image to
Laser Image.
- Graphical views may be automatically exported and saved as JPG or
TIFF images.
- Laser Models may be used as “snap points” for standard AutoCAD
commands.
- Bentley MicroStation XM is now supported, in addition to Autodesk
AutoCAD, Bentley AutoPlant, AVEVA PDMS, Intergraph PDS and Intergraph
SmartPlant Review.
By using QuantaCAD to put reality into design software, clients have
typically been able to reduce field trips by 90% (by doing virtual site
visits in the design software), reduce remodeling time by 85% (by using the
Digitized Facility instead of remodeling in CAD or as a basis to remodel),
decrease design time by 60% (by accessing more complete information in the
design software) and cut rework from design clashes by 85% (by correcting
clashes between the Digitized Facility and the new design).
About Laser Models and Laser Images
Laser Models – winner of a FIATECH CETI award as a significant
advancement in construction technology – are a unique Quantapoint technology
that integrates all laser scan data to provide detailed, high-definition 3D
solid “models” of a facility. Laser Models are visually clear and include
fine details, unlike older “point cloud” technology whose sparse
measurements make it difficult to visualize or understand the facility and
more likely to miss critical design details. Laser Models provide more
complete information for more complete designs.
Quantapoint Laser Images are photo-realistic, panoramic images of laser
scans from individual laser scanner locations (“scanner-centric”). Because
Laser Images are 360-degree images, they may be panned and zoomed like
virtual reality programs to view the surrounding area. Laser Images are
ideal for “virtual” site visits due to their high resolution.
