BROOMFIELD, CO, Jan 15, 2009 - MWH Soft, a leading global provider of environmental and water resources applications software, today announced the second quarter 2009 release of its highly anticipated H2OMAP Water Pro, a state-of-the-art software for simulating and designing reaction systems of any complexity level. The breakthrough software gives engineers the unprecedented ability to accurately model multiple interacting contaminants as well as sediment deposition and re-suspension in drinking water distribution systems.

H2OMAP Water Pro is an extension for H2OMAP Water, a leading reference and a standard in the industry. The new extension is able to model very complex reaction schemes between multiple chemical and biological species in the water distribution piping system, both in the bulk flow and at the pipe wall. This structure gives users the flexibility to model a wide range of important chemical reactions including free chlorine loss, formation of disinfection byproducts, nitrification dynamics, disinfectant residuals, pathogen inactivation, chloramine decomposition, and adsorption on pipe walls. Utilities can now effectively model multi-source, multi-quality systems and accurately assess the fate and transport of contaminant threats in their drinking water distribution systems to best safeguard public health.

While there are a number of commercially available programs for modeling the hydraulic and water quality behavior of drinking water distribution systems, their water quality component is limited to a certain number of fixed kinetic models, and to tracking the transport and fate of a single chemical species, such as fluoride or free chlorine. H2OMAP Water Pro can effectively model any system of multiple, interacting chemical species. In addition, the program allows users to input any mathematical models of physical, chemical, and biological reactions in the bulk water and on pipe surfaces. It also accepts any number of user-specified parameters and formulas for process models; formulas may be cross-dependent or independent. These capabilities give users unprecedented flexibility in accurately modeling individual or combined kinetics in drinking water distribution systems for improved water quality maintenance and management.

H2OMAP Water Pro can also be effectively used to track the movement, fate and build up of particulate material in the distribution system. It considers both settling of particles under gravity as well as deposition of particles on the pipe walls due to particle/pipe surface attractive forces. This feature can greatly assist water utilities in improving distribution design to minimize dirty water and forge closer ties with their customers.

“H2OMAP Water Pro is a revolutionary product that brings a host of new and highly advanced distribution systems water quality and sediment transport modeling capabilities to the mainstream,” said Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D, President and COO of MWH Soft. “By giving water utility engineers easy access to comprehensive and very advanced water quality modeling tools like this one, we can enhance their ability to consistently design and operate safe and reliable drinking water infrastructures and effectively protect public health. H2OMAP Water Pro sustains MWH Soft’s record for being first, a distinction that is important only because it extends our customers’ competitive advantage. It will influence water quality engineering for years to come.”
