Intergraph to Get 2008 NAITA Global Trade Award
HUNTSVILLE,
AL, Sep 26, 2008 - Intergraph has been selected by the North Alabama
International Trade Association (NAITA) to receive its prestigious Global
Trade Award for 2008. The annual NAITA Global Trade Award honors a North
Alabama company or organization for dedication to international trade
development.
“The people of Intergraph are honored to be recognized by NAITA for their
contribution to international trade,” said Intergraph President and CEO
Halsey Wise. “We are proud to play a dynamic role here in Huntsville and
around the world in continuing to grow and develop exceptional innovations
to serve our customers globally.”
Since its founding in 1969, Intergraph has grown into an international
corporation with 3,800 employees and the leading global provider of
engineering and geospatial software that enables customers to visualize
complex data. Businesses and governments in more than 60 countries rely on
Intergraph’s industry-specific software to organize vast amounts of data
into understandable visual representations and actionable intelligence.
Intergraph’s software and services empower customers to build and operate
more efficient plants and ships, create intelligent maps, and protect
critical infrastructure and millions of people around the world.
Today more than 50 percent of Intergraph’s business is outside the U.S.
Most of that international business is conducted through regional Intergraph
offices, while some is performed in conjunction with an international
network of distributors. Software developed by Intergraph in Madison County
is currently being used on the largest industrial projects in the world,
such as to design power plants in China and in shipbuilding in Korea, to
protect borders, such as by the German Border Police, and to protect entire
countries, such as fire and police protection in New Zealand.
Intergraph exports software and support services for incident management
and emergency response; national security; plant design and engineering;
geospatial data collection and analysis; life cycle management; marine
design and engineering; and resource, infrastructure and facilities
management.
Export compliance is an area that requires constant vigilance and
employee training, and NAITA training opportunities have been very helpful
in developing and maintaining the company’s proper processes, safeguards and
employee awareness. With some technologies, import and re-export is a
requirement. Intergraph imports hardware and software technology from the
European Union that is then re-exported to Asia, for example. Compliance
with both US and EU regulations is essential in such cases.
Another challenge is the increased global nature of competition,
including not only competition for customers, but also for talent.
Intergraph has been successful in attracting superior talent in key areas
and managing that talent in a virtual 24x7 global teamwork environment.
Intergraph is involved in several community and volunteer activities, as
well as being involved in trade promotion, education and awareness.
Intergraph has been an active supporter of NAITA as a sustaining member
and active participant – and through Board participation. Numerous
Intergraph employees have graduated from Leadership Huntsville/Madison
County’s leadership programs and have gone on to serve on several non-profit
boards involved with community support and economic development, including
NAITA. Intergraph also hosts an annual customer conference in the US that
showcases its technology and attracts 2,500 individuals from around the
globe.
