GibbsCAM to Show 2009 v9.3 at EASTEC
MOORPARK,
CA, May 5, 2009 – Gibbs and Associates, developer of GibbsCAM software for
programming CNC machine tools and a Cimatron company, announced today that it
will demonstrate new enhancements to the 5-axis module of GibbsCAM 2009 at
EASTEC 2009 in exhibit #5429, at the Eastern States Exposition Grounds in West
Springfield, MA from May 19-21, 2009.

“The new features and enhancements within our 5-axis module provide greater
flexibility and productivity in using multi-axis machines,” says Bill Gibbs,
founder and president of Gibbs and Associates. “The latest enhancements
accommodate the increasing number of machinists who choose 5-axis machining to
reduce set-ups and overall machining time and those manufacturers whose jobs
require 5-axis strictly because of part geometry. In addition to the overall
improvements, users will find that enhancements to the postprocessors extend
support to drive all 5-axis machines with rotary heads.”
The general machining capabilities of the GibbsCAM 5-axis Module are:
- Multi-surface 5-axis roughing and finishing
- Multi-surface 5-axis flow line machining
- Surface edge 5-axis swarf cutting (typically for trimming vacuum-formed
parts)
- Adaptable interface, based upon part type strategy, shows only what is
needed
- Advanced gouge checking to ensure safe cuts even in most complex
operations
- Complete control of entry, exit, cut-to-cut and between-cut motion
- 5-axis depth cuts machining
- Integration with GibbsCAM Machine Simulation module for complete
toolpath verification and simulation of all the machine’s moving components
Enhancements for 2009 Version 9.3
- Additional tilting options for tool axis control, including tilt
relative to impeller machining layer
- Advanced options for gouge checking, to include or exclude selected
segments of toolpath, enabling toolpath trimming before first collision and
after last collision
- New sorting options for better control of passes in roughing operations
- Added ability to flip arcs on lead-in and lead-out for links
- 5-axis work area angular axis limits
- Roughing enhancements, including a redesign of the Translate/Rotate
dialog with new options
- New roughing option that changes cut direction with each pass
- New options for spiral machining cutting method for surface path
creation
- New surface edge handling options for surface path creation
- Improved impeller roughing with new options for toolpath trimming,
extension, smoothing and depth of cuts
- Adaptive cuts (for variable step-over cuts)
- New Damp feature for toolpath control to inhibit tool motion along tool
axis at or near corners
GibbsCAM 2009 5-axis is shipping throughout the first quarter of 2009,
including the international version, with localized User Interface in seventeen
languages and localized documentation in six of the seventeen supported
languages.
