EOS to Introduce Plastic, Metal for RP at RAPID 2008
 NOVI,
MI and KRAILLING, Germany, May 14, 2008 - EOS GmbH, the world’s leading
manufacturer of laser-sintering systems, will present two new commercial
materials at
SME’s RAPID 2008 Conference and Exposition on May 20-22, Booth #500. The
materials increase the range of prototyping and manufacturing capabilities
of EOS’s equipment, enabling companies to further reduce production times
and costs. The new plastic, PrimePart DC, is an impact-resistant polyamide
with a tensile strength of 48 MPa. It has an outstanding elongation at break
of 50 percent—that is about twice as high as those of previously available
materials. The material is thus well-suited for automotive components, such
as interior parts, and also for aerospace applications.
For Direct Metal Laser-Sintering (DMLS), new EOS StainlessSteel PH1
offers high hardness, very good corrosion resistance and excellent
mechanical properties, matching the traits of stainless steels currently in
use in the medical and aerospace industries. It complements the existing
17-4 EOS StainlessSteel GP1.

Rapid 2008 will be held at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort and
Convention Center in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. EOS, presenting sponsor of
the show, will demonstrate its FORMIGA P 100 plastics laser-sintering
equipment and the EOSINT M 270 for Direct Metal Laser-Sintering at its booth
(#500). Dr Michael Shellabear, Vice President, a conference speaker at the
Rapid Manufacturing session held on May 21st, will address quality
requirements for industrial applications of DMLS.
